If you're from #Bluesky, you may not be familiar with relays. These are our servers. Relays are the "dumb" powerhouses that allow Nostr to be decentralized. Here are the paid ones that I've been using for a very long time and always seem to be working and fast.

wss://eden.nostr.land

wss://atlas.nostr.land

wss://relay.orangepill.dev

wss://nostr.milou.lol

wss://nostr.wine

wss://relay.bitblockboom.com

wss://relay.nostrplebs.com

You can buy access to them by entering the URL in your web browser. Just replace wss:// with https:// with one exception. The Nostr Plebs relay needs to be purchased via registering a Nostr address at https://nostrplebs.com

Why pay for a relay? Less spam in global/universe AND you get to give back to the relay operators. Paying for a service you use feels great.

I recommend using both free and paid relays for the best experience. I also recommend not adding more than 12 relays to your profile. After that, your experience will start to slow down and you may experience other issues, depending on your client.

I subscribed to nostrplebs back when it started. From what I remember they charged a very small fee. Is this an annual fee or one time? Feel like I should be paying more.

It's the same fee. If you add your registered Nostr address back to your profile, you can use the relay. It's included in the original price.

Just paid for eden.nostr.land last week, but for me it's very slow or does not work with sending notes (Using primarily coracle.social )

lightningrelay.com is also a good one. And if you are a bit technical, you can easily setup your own relay!

Ya. That wasn't it. I spoke to the owner of one and he said they have kids gaming there.

I want the devs to please give us an unlock for zaps feature. In app not some external "have you tried this" 3rd part site. Adult workers are in legal danger without it.

I see this as a good thing. An annoyance maybe to find relays that work for your purposes, but the freedom of choice that is decentralization. Some apps will want to offer child safe and "family friendly" services and content, some won't. Endless relays can be set up to achieve whatever standards are desired.

I agree. I don't intend or want children exposed to anything adult either.

I'm not ragging on the relay that blocked me either.

I'm just saying you still be censored here by individuals that's all.

That is also freedom and I accept that.

This is why we need NSFW of 18+ only warnings. We also need unlocking zaps for content.

I don’t know why NIP-36 isn’t a higher priority for client developers. (Amethyst supports it. So does Plebstr, in half measure.) If it were widely adopted, users who don’t want to see nudity could mostly filter it out, and reporting and banning would diminish.

Yeah, I was just making that point. While I do think the median Nostr user is less censorious than, for example, the median Twitter user, there are still plenty who want to report nudity.
