When will a real new sport (not some weird derivative of an existing sport) be invented?

Are we beyond that point in human history?

Yeah interesting question... There was a movie called "Baseketball" made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone that asked this question...

Pickleball is kinda new, I think?

my intro to pickleball teacher said it started in the 70s I think

Do esports count? If so, we've already invented hundreds over a few years. πŸ“ˆ

The only sport I watch anymore is NCAA LaCrosse (and even that, only the Semi-finals and finals). Still exciting and un-cucked. Even the womens games are decent in the playoffs.

Sat stacking is my new favourite sport! 🀌

I follow you, but honestly was any one of these able to be called a "new" sport vs a derivative of what was around at the time.

IT'S TIME FOR PROFESSIONAL 4-SQUARE

Materials technology enables new possibilities like kitsurfing and foiling. We'll all be hoverboarding at some point.

Nothing can beat chess tho.

Everything is a wierd derivative of an existing sport.

Almost sport is one of these:

Bounce thing over net

Put thing in other teams net

Get thing to other teams side

A race

A feat of strength

A graded performance

Oh - also:

A fight

The most interesting genre of sport is actually gaming imo. Not sure if you can call competitive gaming a sport but many do.

Perhaps video games are new sports

Paramotor paintball dogfight.
