I’ve seen enough gotcha videos of Republicans quizzing Democrats and Democrats quizzing Republicans about why they’re voting for their chosen candidate to safely say that most people can’t be trusted to hold an opinion.

People don't have time and it's why most people are single issue voters. It's also why identity politics and the abortion topics have been so powerful for the Democrats. Get the one issue people care about and you could literally murder them on the rest.
It's the same thing where people are busy and why they don't want to also have to be their own financial adviser and don't put the time into learning about saving, investing, Bitcoin, etc.

Ultimately, I think I tend to agree with your conclusion. However, i don't think gotcha videos are representative of most people. What you have seen are a subset of the most entertaining responses - curated from a total set already skewed in the direction of an intellect that would even consider participating in such videos.

Look at the candidates. The only defensible position is fuck them both. That is why both sides are so easy to nail with gotcha videos.
