Working on an article about #Nostr now and I am hoping it helps the newcomers feel a little more confident with navigating the learning curve.

Are there any specific tips or suggestions you would include to new users besides the usual “keep your keys safe” and “set up your lightning wallet for zaps”?

I am still a baby Nostrich myself honestly. 😅🤙

- Your content doesn’t look the same in every client

- Treat everything you post as permanent

- More relays isn’t always better. It’s okay to have your relay list to 10 or less.

- You can find community-specific relays that deliver different content that the masses might not care about (for example there are many Japan relays that the rest of the world doesn’t use, giving them their own regional Nostr experience)

Do not venture into the global feed unless you are prepared to see some crazy shit. And if you do feel adventurous, I don’t recommend browsing global in public.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ This. It's really good that Primal keeps you off Global by default.

Global can be pretty bad, especially if you've got the Fediverse bridge relay mostr.pub setup.

- Most users are not accustomed to being in charge of their feed.

Follow and unfollow liberally.

- Also https://nostr.build/ is good to bookmark. You upload pics and videos there and it will generate a link for you to copy/paste into a Nostr note before post.

cool

Hashtags and similar things are great for discovery. One of the most important things you discover is nostriches, the "social capital"

Nice deed writing that welcoming article💪✨💜

Ideas:

- following hashtags are a good way to find people with similar interests to follow

- #introductions is a good place to greet news nostrichs

- i’m finding myself recommending nostr:npub12vkcxr0luzwp8e673v29eqjhrr7p9vqq8asav85swaepclllj09sylpugg client as it makes zap activation so easy for normiez🤙

Not really nostr specific, but the amount of folks still not using password managers to ensure a strong unique password for every service is shocking

Yeah that’s a whole digital literacy issue unfortunately 😅

The few apps most people are using right now (Primal, Amethyst, Damus, etc) are just a small subset of what's being built on top of nostr. Obviously they are much like Twitter, but there will come a time where nostr apps replace many other social medias. It may be a good idea to give them a list of follows of people building things.

I'd mention that notes are permanent, and that no algorithm means you get to see what you want rather than what an algorithm is told to show you.

Also, no one owns nostr. There is no CEO, no head office, no Company buildings and no staff.

Any developments are done by the user/devs.

It's a truely free open source experince...

what kind of content is most appreciated on nostr?

Zaps? Haha seriously though I’m not sure yet

Maybe a little insight on how to reach people if we just started this #nostr path and don't have any followers 😅😅
