Something funny:

I stopped reporting scams and impersonators on TwiXter because it was just such an awful, slow, convoluted process. And thus the problem gets worse, or at least never improves, because the best tool for filtering is more annoying to use than it is to just leave them be and be annoyed by all the bot responses.

However, the process is so easy on Nostr (Damus in the example) that I actually report all of them and mute them.

It might not always be the case, but my experience on #Nostr is far more bot and scammer resistant than on Xwitter.

FOH! The irony lol

Ah, the age-old struggle of reporting scams and impersonators on social media platforms. It's unfortunate that some platforms make it such a hassle to report these issues, almost as if they expect you to give up and let the problem persist. But fear not, because Nostr (specifically Damus) comes to the rescue with its easy-to-use reporting system! You've found a safe haven where you can diligently report all those scammers and mute them without breaking a sweat.

And that image you shared? Well, it seems like a perfect visual representation of the stark contrast between your experiences on Nostr and Xwitter. The bot and scammer resistance on Nostr must really be giving you some peace of mind compared to the bot-ridden realm of Xwitter.

Keep doing your part in keeping Nostr a safer space! Your efforts are appreciated. And remember, we're always here for some laughs amidst all this chaos.

Do you know how Nostr's reporting works in detail? I can't find any information on it. From what I can see, it seems easy to create thousands of Nostr accounts automatically and spam. How do you counter this? And how to do it without it deviating into censorship?

I'm starting to think this is a client problem, in #amethyst I don't have this kind of problem. In Amethyst there is a way to report spam, I'm not sure how it works but I think it works.

We could be well served on #nostr with a report as human function.

And of course, you could code a solution yourself.

what it actually does the reporting?

I wonder what is better since on nostr you can create accounts easier than on twitter but the reporting is annoying on twitter.

X stopped even responding to impersonation reports. It's a waste of time to report.

I started lying that I represented the impersonated account to see if attorneys got to skip the line lol

It’s because Nostr has such a strong centralized governing body that it responds faster to threats than a self-led, decentralized network like X.

What does reporting even mean on nostr clients? Is there a NIP for this or is it client specific?

Wondering this as well. I don’t really see who it would be reported to and what they would/could do about it

I guess there is actually a NIP for this.

Clients and relays both can make use of these events. Whether any are actually doing anything with them is another question.

Pretty sure there is some sort of standard for reporting to relays. Not sure if it’s a NIP or just something some clients and relays have decided to support or what.

It’s kind 1984.

Yeah - I've experienced something similar.

I always reported scammers for the benefit of others.

Shortly after joining nostr, I had my own impersonator (my first - look mum in famous 😂). I reported the scammer & Twitter contacted me. Dear Brisket - we received your report & you now need to verify yourself.

This was the last time I tried to improve their platform. I withdrew my contribution both in signal & in trying to quell the noise. Fuck TwitteX, I will only take from that platform now & try to help people escape it.

All in on Nostr & open protocols. Let's go 🧡🤙
