the moon is made of plasma so nuking it won't do anything. The nuke will blow up due to the moon's electromagnetic border way before it even reachs the actual moon
theyll just wait these days til something worth nuking is put up on the moon by some other side you know them humans....
Just think how much radiation emitted and sea-life was destroyed detonating hundreds or thousands of nukes in the ocean. The government is evil.

Stephenson wrote an excellent novel about a fractured moon raining fire upon the earth for 20,000 years and forcing humanity to escape into space within anfew years and then survive in space for 20,000 years or so (don't quote me on the numbers).
Novel is Seveneves.
Probably my favorite of his.
