ChatGPT is so frustratingly dumb for dev work. I can give it my exact code and tell it to only modify the relevant parts and it will completely delete parts of existing code that had nothing to do with requested modifications.
You can only ask about specific code sections and copy / paste those. Ok, but not ideal.
Use, Cursor or Bolt.
I've experienced the same or like I was asking it about setting up a Samba server and it gave me 1/3 of a config file and didn't tell me there were another 2/3 needed to make it work lol.

Have you tried using Claude? That is better at coding.

It was better when it started, now it gets worse every month. What I find it good for is improving/creating messages
I’ve encountered similar issues when asking it to generate images. Explicit directions go ignored. It doesn’t always happen, but it occurs frequently enough where it’s frustrating and makes using it for this task unreliable.
Replit is the way to go for this.
