For a mass wave, either censorship on other platforms or some drama/celebs come over.
Nobody cares about censorship, unfortunately.
It would have to be notable figures making their way here organically.
Celebs won’t come over until the onboarding and account creation is simpler and more understandable. Need design help. Then it’s features like zaps, but probably has to be a built in wallet so it’s fast and seemless.
The gamification of zaps among status-driven celebs is going to be insane.
That’s all just a mater of time. Also, celebs may not want to come till their audiences are here.
Now the first thing, censorship of groups may easily drive the next wave.
What about a library for mobile Nostr apps to delegate automatic invoice payment to the user's preferred LN wallet?
- Nostr app registers with LN app (exchanges keys)
- Nostr app requests LN app to pay invoice.
Implementing LN wallet features is a lot of overhead for a Nostr Client, and it may even harm the overall user experience.
If I can send a request to CashApp to automatically pay in the background, that is a huge burden lifted. Also opens up further use cases for things like podcasting 2.0, etc.
Since there is user interaction to zap (or boost), the requesting app has the foreground in Android. Sending an Intent to the user's preferred LN wallet means Android allows plenty of time to make the network request to pay the invoice, and I even bet you could spin up a Tor Daemon if user is self hosting.
It definitely needs service design/UX skills to create a better user experience. Blockchain tech is still developer driven therefore solution centered. We need to understand and validate the problem to find the right solution. Featurites lures;)
The creation of a new keypair (aka account) is only 1 click in most apps, how could it be further improved?
Btw, do you think it is a good idea to call it “account” if it is not centrally managed?
keypair management, finding contacts and people i know, etc. and yeah, account may not be right word.
Agree, finding contacts is an issue.
My experience is that people don’t like too many new things, so any new term should be introduced with caution. But keypairs or pub/sec-key is an important one.

I think for the moment nostr is not the right place for non-bicoin enthusiasts. I don't understand 90% of the discussions 🤷🏻♀️
I didn’t know absolutely anything about bitcoin before signing up. Users here here are so helpful with questions. I also post on here like I did on Twitter, about anything and everything
I personally enjoy how nostr creates a place free from celebrity idolization, community is more important than fame, that’s been something missing from the internet for a long long time.
Celebrity idolization was a problem since we had kings and queens. Would be nice to solve it one day 🙃

Yeah I still haven’t figured out how to connect a Bitcoin Lightning wallet yet. I’m sure it’s not too hard but just one of those things I gotta get around to. Better UI will definitely help someone like me.

For everyone to migrate it has to be 10x better, this is quite achievable.
But Twitter with 1m MAU users and Twitter with 250m MAU are indistinguishable for the user.

Keep the lack of censorship. Lose the glitches (random loss of followers, profile pictures missing). Growth of content beyond the current Bitcoin-centric material.

nobody cares about "censorship" or "privacy" or "ownership of data" besides the the crowd that already knows about nostr.
the next wave of nostr adoption is client-dependent.
impeccable UX experiences that offer more features than existing, popular apps.
pre-aggregated nostr backends, custodial nostr experiences (hear me out, we have custodial bitcoin/lightning solutions and they've really helped onboard the masses)
the average user shouldn't have to care about private keys or relays or like counts sometimes showing up or follower counts dropping; because, to the average non technical normie, this is bad UX (but understandably)
if these aren't solved, it will always just be a niche community. no hate though, niche communities can thrive too. bitcoin has its own little ecosystem and economy, and it grows every day.

Twitter and the rest of Clown world won't know what hit them
I think it moved from first adopter (2 yrs back when fiatjaf started it) to early adopters last Dec - which where we are at now, and this will take some time to get to early majority - the folks here now are quicker to adopt to change which makes it a great moment for builders building tools and use cases in creating various market segments ie elaborate communication platform, and other tools such as artist payment, commerce, crowdfund, GitHub etc. All this will at first attract smaller crowd of early majority, and words of mouth, hype will start building up, influencers will get in and boom 💥 Once it gets to the early majority stage, the tech changes that’s happening now will be slower but output of users will be heavy. For now I think it’s just abt building tools and use cases for various market segments and getting smaller early majority crowd in, to start using it
for the social media use case: I think when the design community steps in more. And search/trends (this helps it break news).
I think it looks pretty nice right now, but it could be smoother. Ie. More swipe-enabled.
And easier to click on notes.. I often miss-click and go to profile or re-broadcast.

Mostly reading than contributing.
My main social network usage are private/public technical/hobby/similar social backgrounds Facebook groups. Where we share knowledge and stories in a group that can relate and help. Essentially building community.
These groups have different levels of a moderation which kind of help I believe.

Deplatformed groups of people. Anyone who has an opinion or something to say which is not approved.
Concurrently, we should see 'siloing' through the use of relays specific to different tribal affiliations. There's going to be an influx of 'bad guys.' (insert your boogyman here). It's an open protocol, but will naturally partition.
Independent, truth speaking journalists and big account citizen journalists. If we're going to break away from twitter, (I'm on a twitter fast for Lent) there needs to be proper breaking news happening here.

Absolutely zaps. It will draw content creators, which will attract more people to Nostr who seek their content. Also but probably secondly, once Nostr gets greater scale, people who get burned from traditional SM will find it as a superior censorship-free alternative.
