This is what #decentralization looks like.

Three #solar powered #meshtastic nodes and four more in the works. As long as one of them is up, it'll relay encrypted messages for people.

A little soldering, a little 3D printing and about $250 in parts to build one. Now that the CAD work has been done, each one only takes about 2 hours to put together. (not counting print time)

Parts list and instructions are coming soon.

#decentralize everything

This is fantastic😊

niiiice 😎

ive got my fleet going through its breakin/design period. im really enjoying mqtt support now, to collect and judge all my battery (and additional sensor) stats to influxdb.

I want this so badly

Similar to some of the nodes that one of the guys here has been deploying. Same RAK LoRa board, also a DFRobot solar charge controller, but instead of a 3D printed case they use the case and solar panel from cheap solar light from Bunnings.

Thats badass! I built a few myself… trying to dial them in

I'd be happy to trade notes. I'm getting about 1 km in urban areas and at least 3 km in more rural areas.

I'm concerned that the current sensing might be a drain on the batteries when there's no power coming in. It'll take more testing to determine that for sure. It takes a while to make a dent in the charge level on this battery pack...

Yeah it looks pretty beefy. I have 2 3000mah batts with 5w solar and it is keeping up for the last couple weeks. I believe the bluetooth was draining the batts before, just turned it off. I have been picking up a lot of mesh nodes on planes lately!

You can just flip on the BT via remote administration as long as you have that set up, right?

A word of warning about OTA updates: the warning at the top of the page is legit! I rendered the node on my roof inoperable (a USB flash got it back up and running). Probably packet loss, but hard to know for sure. I'll keep experimenting to try to figure out what can make it more reliable.

Point being: think twice if you're going to update a node where you can't easily get physical access in the event it fails.

Im a newb with these things so i don’t really know a lot about them yet just experimenting with them

Do you give courses? I'd pay to learn how to do this.

I'm working on putting together something for my local Makerspace.

I miss #Firechat. It saved the Occupy movement's bacon many times a decade and a half ago

I'm a noob. If we get noobs like me to br able to build and setup those things, well get to our objective. The objective is that there are a lot of nodes. I want to contribute in Spain with my node. But I'm a noob. I'm a software Dev but I don't know much about hardware and soldering and all that. I'd really appreciate the guides. I want to contribute to the network.

Sorry for my English

There are nodes that do not require any soldering. I thought there was one for about $200 USD, but now I can only find a much more expensive one:

Mine does require some soldering, but if you have a hackerspace or makerspace nearby, they could do it. I plan on publishing the parts list and build instructions.

Nice, I'll follow you and I'll try to learn. Thank you very much!!

Aren't there any plug and play mesh devices that any pleb can plug on their nostr:nprofile1qqsw5t3us9xs3gmclzjm37hvk2yy6pv9t96utjjttsj794hexc5x79qppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qrmlyn Start9 server in order to quickly bootstrap a dense enough mesh network for "offline txs" ?

You can buy commercially built solar nodes to get a mesh network.

As for "offline txs", and I'm guessing you're talking about bitcoin transactions here, I'm not aware of anything off the shelf that will do that.

Surely someone has hacked something together at some point that will do this, and if you manage to find it, let me know so I can boost it!

Love it!

Great Setup!

Well done. Who needs big tech when you can build your own network 🔧

I'm rock hard rn
