I live in Texas so a heater unit ain't exactly welcome round these parts as they're battling the AC, but was considering sending one to my mother who lives in a cold place.

My wife has 2 Avalon nano 3s in her office at her feet. She absolutely Loves them.

I have them on smart sockets controlled with Home Assistant.

How many would I need for a 2500 sq ft home in NH in winter? And how efficient would that be?

Probably cheapest to find used S9s than a new consumer brand product. The real question would be circulation but if you could get them in your HVAC circuit that'd be a game changer. No idea how many you'd need probably 4-5 if it gets really cold. It might be a fun question to talk through with an AI

No HVAC here. I live in old farm house built in 1870. πŸ˜‚ Hasn't been updated quite yet.

circulation would be the quesion, but some old s9s get fuckin' hot and are compatible with 110v outlets

How much do they pull though? Too much would trip the fuse in this house.

In my case a 20A dedicated circuit will power 2 miners.

I have the fan ready to go - 1st miner on the way.

Will likely add a second or a space heater style unit on other floors

I will add miners until I have to open windows ! Hahah

Canaan Avalon Nano 3

Draws up to 140W depending on mode 110v regular circuit. That’s very little. It mines about .35 -.50 USD / day. Not a lot of bitcoin but also not a lot of power draw. Very efficient

With the Canana you'll get at least tripple the hash that you get with the S9. I've got mine running at ~8-9/TH these are like 30+

How much juice does it pull? Concerned with tripping fuse.

The Avalon is 110v and up to 800 watts.

I think running questions with the specs through AI would be a good idea. Casey is probably right nostr:nprofile1qy28wumn8ghj7ctvvahjuat50phjummwv5hszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qpqzzmxvr9sw49lhzfx236aweurt8h5tmzjw7x3gfsazlgd8j64ql0sx6f08g but Im just thinking about heat generation more than hash.. I think s9's generate like12-13 default hash rate th/s

yes, S9 default is like 12-14TH at full 100% That's too loud if you're in the same room with it.

even with the quiet Noctua fans i have.

Ordered noctua fans and 3D printed shrouds to mate to the inline fan.

Nice! The noctuas are great

I did extensive testing with AI designing the circuit and automating it with my smart thermostat. The specific miners , fans , where specificity is best to tie into the HVAC etc.

I was able to use the fan to reduce the use of AC considerably this summer while testing and learning Home Assistant.

so cool.

Very nice brother πŸ€™πŸ«‚

I started by wiring a ecobee smart thermostat to my 30year old furnace. That cut the power use by half. Sensors on each floor and the master improved it Controlling the bathroom fans and using them to vent heat helped too.

Adding the inline fan pushed cold air from the lower level up to the 3rd floor, normalizing a 4C temp differential in about 2 hrs . Slight fan noise but nothing like an AC. 1 small AC on the upper level held down the whole 2300 sqft house

I'd like the optimal answer that includes both. πŸ€·πŸ˜‚

Get you pencil out and get quanting.

There are several ways to think about it.

For me I started mining to learn. It’s changed and profitably comes from efficiency + cheap power rather than raw hashrates.

Supplementing heat, as a plug in space heater makes sense - you get the margin from the $ you would spent on power.

I’ve added a fan to the HVAC and am about to add a S-19 Pro Loki Urlacher. (Bigger medium power ASIC miner) to the mix. The more it runs the less the furnace does. It’s break even mining but the money I spend on power ends up in my BTC wallet πŸ₯°

I rent right now. I'll consider that when we build. πŸ€πŸ«‚

No doubt. I am thinking of getting them to quote me on using miners to heat a sauna instead of the typical finish heat source.

Absolutely dude. If you own it, Make your house pay for itself.

If I didn't have a battery powered car, id be mining with my excess solar already
