Is there a mining heater that has been highly reviewed, and needs little to no tech literacy?

I live in a cold climate for a good part of the year, about to commence soon, and would love to find a mining heater that has be tried and tested. Something simple tech wise, as I am not proficient in that field. Need step by step instructions. lol

I'm looking for something reliable, that doesn't require a lot of knowledge to run. Just plug and play type situation.

Might be asking for too much, but gotta ask. Might as well earn bitcoin while heating my house.

Isn't there a slight difference between a miner, and a mining heater?

Not really. Heat is a byproduct of mining. 2birds. 1 stone.

But haven't heater's been modified to be quieter?

Correct. They just come with better fans.

So I'd need to switch out fans?

Sorry. I’m not doing a good job with this. Let me rest.

If you are looking for heater first, but also mines. Check out that Avalon mini3 from Canaan. That’s really all you would need. Pull it out of the box and plug it in (110v)

If you wanted more DYI. You would buy a real miner. Like a S19 or S21 And replace fans. Run Ethernet. And a 220v power. And have to do ducting and such.

The link I sent is the quick easy route.

I gotcha 🤙 Thanks brother 🙏🙏

You’re welcome. Happy to have a more detailed chat if you would like.

I use an old S9 in my office as a heat source. And I’m looking into more options for the whole house and my water heater.

Currently renting, so not doing any property improvements. When we build a house, the build will have mining in the equation.

Yeah that Little baseboard guy looks perfect for you then. 💪

How many sq feet would you say it can heat? During winter, it gets below zero here on occasion.

My nano s from canaan is a great heater for my office, but probably insufficient for a larger below zero space.

I don’t know for sure with this one, but I would guess at 800 watts it’s probably close or better than those larger edenpure ceramic heater things. Those are usually 1200-1500watts. The difference is those kick on and off. These you can run steady at different watts to keep the room temps steady. Esp if you use light fans or ceiling fans to spread the air.

I can heat my 1200sq ft basement to 68-70 degrees in the middle of winter at about 500-600watts from an old S9 and that thing is old as fuck.

Bent just had a guy on TFTC talking about a company he's starting that is going to do this

The Avalon mini3 is a great heater and miner in one. It’s basically plug and play too.

Canaan makes several consumer products that are small space heaters that earn a little more than they burn but provide heat.

They plug into a “regular household” socket. The small ones warm a room or work area The larger ones put out practical space heat.

They’re efficient and quiet. small scale.

I have 3 in my home so far. (Along with some other mining gear )

the mini 3 looks nice. id trade my very idle s19 90th for one 😬

https://www.canaan.io/mini3

Agree. They have the traditional electric baseboard form factor. I can see replacing existing units with these =) The ROI was slightly lower than other forms but the stealth swap over is great.

The S19 can be Loki Urlacher ‘d and under clocked for efficiency. There are several kits avail.

but im so lazy 😭

It’s all good IF you need the heat or can offset expense of heat. Even my old open air rig is heating the lower level.

This one mines different stuff but I get paid out in BTC

nostr:npub1cmc7sh0nz8dxjxpz4s8ye75esrve4g0azty820mh8ygwv9r9dzwqg89fnd is awesome and maybe able to help. They die I slide in heating homes and pools domestically via #btc mining 🙏

Tyler is a good mate of nostr:npub1guh5grefa7vkay4ps6udxg8lrqxg2kgr3qh9n4gduxut64nfxq0q9y6hjy ‘s too 🙏🧡

Thanks for letting me know. I saw an interview with him just the other day with Marty. Very interesting.

Would love a house that mines corn. 🤙 At least that what I was picturing.

I listened to that the other day too. It was pretty good. Been trying to plan my move to miner heat for a while now. It’s just a big $$ at the start if I go all in.

He has videos on X showing the process for “complicated” floor heating in domestic outfits - am sure he can offer advice 🙏💪

We're renting right now. Waiting to build, until conditions are right. Will be incorporating mining into build when it happens.

If i was doing a new build or even buying a new place I would factor in the conversion to a boiler and/or miners for my primary heat source into my overall costs.

The boiler that guy mentions in the podcast is only $7200 USD. That’s about what a new boiler that runs on propane or fuel oil runs.

This is what we want to speak to ppl about in our part of southern Oz where it’s cold at least 8mths of the year .. waves are epic .. weather shit! I believe Tyler will be able to sell this globally.

He helped us understand the process through his book now we can start to sell the concept to “normies” looking for innovative change 🙏

As nostr:npub1x7adwrtl5a3xv50htqmtm70h2rgr9rrj2k4ejeem7dhn6jdkmruqwjclkf said, I'VE seen from several other miners that the Canaan Avalon series has performed well. I live in Texas so a heater unit ain't exactly welcome round these parts as they're battling the AC, but was considering sending one to my mother who lives in a cold place.

My wife has 2 Avalon nano 3s in her office at her feet. She absolutely Loves them.

I have them on smart sockets controlled with Home Assistant.

How many would I need for a 2500 sq ft home in NH in winter? And how efficient would that be?

Probably cheapest to find used S9s than a new consumer brand product. The real question would be circulation but if you could get them in your HVAC circuit that'd be a game changer. No idea how many you'd need probably 4-5 if it gets really cold. It might be a fun question to talk through with an AI

No HVAC here. I live in old farm house built in 1870. 😂 Hasn't been updated quite yet.

circulation would be the quesion, but some old s9s get fuckin' hot and are compatible with 110v outlets

How much do they pull though? Too much would trip the fuse in this house.

In my case a 20A dedicated circuit will power 2 miners.

I have the fan ready to go - 1st miner on the way.

Will likely add a second or a space heater style unit on other floors

I will add miners until I have to open windows ! Hahah

Canaan Avalon Nano 3

Draws up to 140W depending on mode 110v regular circuit. That’s very little. It mines about .35 -.50 USD / day. Not a lot of bitcoin but also not a lot of power draw. Very efficient

With the Canana you'll get at least tripple the hash that you get with the S9. I've got mine running at ~8-9/TH these are like 30+

How much juice does it pull? Concerned with tripping fuse.

The Avalon is 110v and up to 800 watts.

I think running questions with the specs through AI would be a good idea. Casey is probably right nostr:npub1zzmxvr9sw49lhzfx236aweurt8h5tmzjw7x3gfsazlgd8j64ql0sexw5wy but Im just thinking about heat generation more than hash.. I think s9's generate like12-13 default hash rate th/s

yes, S9 default is like 12-14TH at full 100% That's too loud if you're in the same room with it.

even with the quiet Noctua fans i have.

Ordered noctua fans and 3D printed shrouds to mate to the inline fan.

Nice! The noctuas are great

I did extensive testing with AI designing the circuit and automating it with my smart thermostat. The specific miners , fans , where specificity is best to tie into the HVAC etc.

I was able to use the fan to reduce the use of AC considerably this summer while testing and learning Home Assistant.

so cool.

Very nice brother 🤙🫂

I started by wiring a ecobee smart thermostat to my 30year old furnace. That cut the power use by half. Sensors on each floor and the master improved it Controlling the bathroom fans and using them to vent heat helped too.

Adding the inline fan pushed cold air from the lower level up to the 3rd floor, normalizing a 4C temp differential in about 2 hrs . Slight fan noise but nothing like an AC. 1 small AC on the upper level held down the whole 2300 sqft house

I'd like the optimal answer that includes both. 🤷😂

Get you pencil out and get quanting.

There are several ways to think about it.

For me I started mining to learn. It’s changed and profitably comes from efficiency + cheap power rather than raw hashrates.

Supplementing heat, as a plug in space heater makes sense - you get the margin from the $ you would spent on power.

I’ve added a fan to the HVAC and am about to add a S-19 Pro Loki Urlacher. (Bigger medium power ASIC miner) to the mix. The more it runs the less the furnace does. It’s break even mining but the money I spend on power ends up in my BTC wallet 🥰

Yea, nostr:npub1tdewu5xk7ydz68tgc6mk4gq7hyty6s5uakf6w3amr5z9lse3rqnqsekx8c recommended them as well. I'm wondering how many sq ft it would heat. It gets cold here. I'm in NH.

I rent right now. I'll consider that when we build. 🤝🫂

No doubt. I am thinking of getting them to quote me on using miners to heat a sauna instead of the typical finish heat source.

Absolutely dude. If you own it, Make your house pay for itself.

If I didn't have a battery powered car, id be mining with my excess solar already

How reliable, and user friendly? Do you have experience with them?

Oh sorry, I have no experience with them. Just popped in my head that they have built a dedicated home heater

I gotcha. Appreciate you brother 🤙

nostr:npub1je9a79rmae4ukvsgu2nkseep35auhmd435spvj25wj894g4s5v4szmurtv can you answer his questions? iirc you're working with them

What does your energy cost ?

What Casey pointed out is supposed to be good.

If heat is your main priority the go with the space heater. Should be less noise as well.

Should be really easy to setup and point to a pool and address.

I haven't tried it, but have you heard of heatbit?

https://heatbit.com/

I have. Seen some really bad reviews.

I had no idea. Where did you find the reviews?

I don't remember, but I do recall them when looking last year.

This link did something creepy

What did it do?

One of the YouTubers I enjoy is Red Panda Mining. He often reviews the smaller less expensive miners and has a spreadsheet he shares with all the efficiency / cost etc.
