I'm very picky about who I follow and really try hard to avoid following impersonators or bots and one heuristic I would like to use is "follows of my follows" but I have not yet come across any client that would filter the followers by my own follows or at least put them first and highlight them. Some clients sort serach results by followers but fullowers is such a flawed metric unless those followers are my own hand-picked follows.

How do the more paranoid among you decide who to follow?

Iris messenger has configurable web of trust: you can set it up to where iris doesnt show events beyond follows of your follows

What iris messenger are you talking about? I think there is a mobile app and there is https://iris.to which is a Snort instance.

Yes Iris and Snort merged. Iris.to in web browser

Follows of my follows of my follows is the default? So with Iris I never see new users until somebody follows them? That is awesome! Snort was my main client in the past but it turned unreliable so I had switched to NoStrudel. Guess I'll give it another try. Thank you!

Navigating to that URL does not work in a bad way. I have to clear cache and login ... Something I have to do every other minute with Snort. I think that was the reason why I had abandoned it.

My settings have no "Social Network" and look quite different than what you shared:

It looks like a completely different app.

Which URL?

Are you on iris.to?

That URL works ... sort of. There is many bugs, too.

Ask Martti and Kieran

I had that problem with primal web

I follow people who have the same interests, are active or simply generate value

Easy to fall for LLMs that are good at imitating a target audience's interest.

I can't disagree with you here

I set my feed to Latest with Replies, and watch for people whose responses I appreciate. And I see others do the same because when my own notes get shared I'll see who likes, reshares or zaps those notes and see if they are someone I want to follow.

Slow and labor intensive? Yes. But 100X better than any algorithm suggestions.

Well, I guess we all do this more or less but I feel that makes me susceptible to following LLM bots as it's easy to produce relatable notes if you know the target audience. Maybe there is already hundreds of zap farming accounts run by some dude and his LLM.

I follow people who talk to me . Simple . And posters if you post a lot

Coracle's Web of Trust indicator on profiles does a lot for me, so that plus a quick look at the profile's content is enough for me.

I like to think I can tell bots/LLMs content from real people lol although some one liners plus ai art accounts like Saylor can mud the water.

Also Primal has a follows of my follows (Tribe) feed that can also maybe help find better quality accounts to follow? Although there's no WoT indicator.
