Nostr had been growing steadily throughout 2024, but recently dropped below 10k users for the first time this year, following a major, costly attack. It had previously crossed 20k and was aiming for 50 DAU in the near future. Unfortunately, over half the user base, hit by spam, have left. I hope it's just a temporary setback and that Nostr can recover. Would have been nice if they'd focused on spamming the competition, and helping to grow nostr. These are the worst people.

When did the methodology for creating this data change? Right after 2024-09-20 did it change to "trusted" pubkeys due to the spam issue? Because if so the drop is an artifact.

Came here to ask that.

Stands to reason that anti-ReplyGuy activities would also change DAU results if the measurement process takes a similar tack to the spam prevention

don't wanna say "i told you so" but i been telling you all for 9 months that spam will be a huge problem, and that auth was a critical part of the mitigation, as is paid relays, but oh no all the commiteit sagt "nein" and here we are today

and they thought that auth and paid realys would hurt adoption, yeah, this is way way worse than that

us 10k users are all the psycho maniacs who refuse to go back to wherever it was that the other 20k that arrived a few months back never really stopped going to

and it's quite astounding how weak and feeble the damus and primal response has been, and their relays are like 50% replyguy now

Heard. Even speaking about narrative warfare someone told me: I can’t take you seriously if you see online this way.

Me: Cool 😎 story Bro.

Time always tells the truth.

It’s going to get worse & the keyboard warriors need to prepare. Time to go through my old posts again. 😂🙏🫡

If everyone leaves, I will be the last nostrich chatting with me and myself.

You and me can laugh as the world burns

Maybe they ARE the competition, spamming nostr so id doesn't grow

Oh my… It was a lot.

It’s a temporary setback.

Long term #Nostr will grow.

More people wake up everyday to see they are being manipulated & controlled by big wealth.

We disagree that these are the worst people. The top 1% who has placed 99% in slavery to them are the worst people.

Kindly, it’s been an information war forever. Information Age made it easier to brainwash humanity. #AI will continue targeting #humanity The people who don’t realize this need to know this.

Love and good people already won. But the battle is long.

Yeah, it's pretty quiet here. Always has been since I joined.

Idk if there are only 4 of us. I'll still be here.

When you have spam hitting everyone. That’s what you get. Im surprised im still here.

Thanks for sticking around!

ive not seen anybody posted their nsecs and said theyre leaving

the down sides of a new protocol no-one to hot fix issues as they arrive. With the funding from SATs we really should.see more mature clients and features to beat stagnation. at the end of the day we have no killer app just a bunch of clones of other apps, not that that's totally bad it just means slow progress to adoption and with such a small userbase the incentive to post is just to damn low. people need to feel seen on a social network.

It’s worth noting that Nostr isn't that new—it’s 1/8th the age of the web. Bluesky, in just 2 years (half the time), has grown10 million users, adding more daily than Nostr has in 4 years. A key reason is Bluesky’s developers work constructively on the protocol, and they’ve invested in infrastructure, while nostr infrastructure is neglected. Some excellent devs with grants are working hard, but others seem to have eased off. Many shy away from the simpler devops work, or onboarding fixes, opting instead for novel, unproven solutions.
