Hey nostr šŸ‘‹ #asknostr

For those that listen to our content nostr:npub1fpcd25q2zg09rp65fglxuhp0acws5qlphpg88un7mdcskygdvgyqfv4sld, do you find our name…distracting?

I’m talking about the word ā€œprogressiveā€

Do you find it’s a don’t judge a book by its cover situation for those that might not be crazy about the word progressive? Or do you love the name/word? Comment below from any of the 3 options:

1) keep the name

2) change the name

3) I don’t listen, doesn’t feel like it’s for me

3 But I was curious to listen to it. What are you talking about in it?

We cover a lot on human rights, regulatory/political narratives of bitcoin, Bitcoin mining and the environmental benefits of bitcoin, mainstream adoption, and more.

We have about 60% U.S. listeners and the rest world wide :)

Oh. Great. If you want to know about bitcoin adoption, politics and inflation in Iran I can tell you about that

Option 1)

Too many people still identify with that label. They need that signal in the name.

Keep the name. I don't think it's distracting.

Hey I don't fall under any of those numbers but here's my view:

I haven't listened to your content *specifically* because of that name.

The word progressive has become so tainted by fiat shenanigans that it is a big turnoff to hear it. Even though the word progress is a positive one.

Thing is, I would have given it a shot already if it weren't for the fact that there's SO much good bitcoin content out there these days, and I barely get to consume all of it.

So I *might* have checked out yours by now if the name had been different yes.

"Progressing bitcoin", to give a silly example would have increased the odds a lot more for me to have checked it out. It removes a lot of that politically charged innuendo.

That said, there might be plenty of people that DID check it out because of the current name, just putting in my 2 sats. āœŒļø

Great feedback, thanks!

Perhaps: Bitcoin for a better world.

I think the name helps your target in the usa, while in Europe it's a bit lost because they are all over the place. It's hard being the only one on the left, keep the name I like it

I was intrigued by the name two years ago when nostr:npub12wu7095378nwykqs0yj39t7fjsvvglay26cajjuee80vtte0vyjsf482kk launched the podcast, because nobody else seemed to be talking about #bitcoin from this angle. Since then, the space has grown a lot, and political labels have become more meaningless than ever. I think it’s a good time to change. A new name for a new cycle and a wider audience.

I would use the word 'Pirate" instead...

I like where this is going.

When I think from first principles what the word "progressive" means, it's the idea that one wants the world to be a better place tomorrow than it is today; when I think of the word "conservative" it's the idea that we want to preserve the world in its pristine state and save something for the next generation. These words, in my mind, are not at all at odds with each other. In fact, the two words can be completely compatible with each other.

Sadly both of these words have been coopted by the political counterfeit class for the own ends to extract maximum rents from ordinary citizens.

All this to say, keep the name, draw in those that think of themselves as "progressive", that's your target, and then they'll learn that Bitcoin is for them too.

I am in the ā€œ1ā€ camp. I think you’re swimming upstream trying to get progressive folks to understand and care about bitcoin, but the name is an honest signal for the stories you tell.

1. Keep the name.

Two reasons:

— It’s important to appeal to people who identify as progressive.

— Also, right-wing nutcases like to think that they have twisted the word ā€œprogressiveā€ around so that it’s somehow derogatory (like ā€œwokeā€). Brave conservatives who still have a little bit of an open mind might listen to your show once and realize that they actually agree with almost everything and maybe ā€œprogressiveā€ doesn’t mean what they thought it did.

DON'T LISTEN. PROGRESSIVE IS A WORD USED BY WHITE YUPPIES TO PROJECT INTELLECTUAL SUPERIORITY AND FEIGN VIRTUOUS MORALS WHILE SUPPORTING ATROCIOUS POLICY POSITIONS THAT HURT THE VERY PEOPLE THEY CLAIM TO BE SO CONCERNED ABOUT BECAUSE THEY DON'T FEEL THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS UNTIL IT LANDS ON THEIR DOORSTEP TO WHICH THEY QUICKLY REFRAME IN A GAME OF FURTHER TWISTED LOGIC TO PROTECT THEIR FRAGILE POWER LOVING MINDS.

Keep the name.

I was in politics for 15 years, and very few people on the left or right have any damn clue what the word "Progressive" really means. Even if they think they do, they're not zoomed out enough.

The real progressive movement got started with the Magna Carta.

When in doubt, zoom out.

reads "progressive"

gets bored

also in south america/spain gets much worse

in spanish people get pejoratively called a "progre" which is the equivalent of leftard....

So nostr:npub164q45vfa8prpl7f63stsl9qm9n22v6julkasjdqxjc8kevchsj0sp42rl3 as a conservative, this name question is peak ā€˜progressive.’ Keep the name!

3.

Progressive just makes me think that you are a bleeding heart democrat/vegan/global warming propaganda believer šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. Simply from a book by its cover, have never listened to you āœŒļø

First reaction was to pass over it. The name already signalled the content, therefore ignore (since in my mental map that points to the 2+2=5 Math rather than the Numeris en Vires Math).

However, I've been following your npub for a while and get what *you're* about. So that makes me curious to take a look, and this asknostr moment gives me a pause for thought.

Facilitating the right kind of social justice in the world is part of Bitcoin's 'fix the money fix the world' and I can see a genre emerging with books like 'Check Your Financial Privilege' by Alex Gladstein and 'A Progressive's Case for Bitcoin' by Jason Maier... which probably sit alongside 'Thank God for Bitcoin' and 'Bitcoin and Black America'... all converging around a bigger idea that bitcoin restores a sense of justice and fairness in the world - in ways not distorted by fiat fuelled socialism.

That last part is important, as the craziness of the last few years is connected and likely caused by 'late stage fiat' thinking contaminating every institution.

So, having thought about it, I *can* get beyond judging the book by its cover and take a sneak peak inside, but yeah there's room to broaden your audience by changing the name.

Hope that helps.

Great feedback, appreciate it!

whats wrong with your cover fren? seems fine to me

Keep the name... Youve done lots of pow to build the brand/name. Also it's important to represent for people who get off put from the very obvious right wing, left brained, echo chamber.

Keep the name.

Because I stayed awake in US history class, I know it stands for the fundamental reforms to capitalism which later enabled the United States to navigate between the extremes of fascism and socialist revolution in the 1930s. I thank progressives for:

• the right to vote for all non-felon citizens

• free education for all

• libraries for all

• fire escapes, emergency exits (it's amazing how much you miss them when you move to a country where you are constantly having to ask someone to unlock the door to let you OUT of a building)

• the concept of "the weekend"

• near elimination of child labor (the exception was unfortunately farm labor)

• national parks

• being able to rely on meat and dairy products not to make me ill (at least in the short term)

• ingredient lists for food and medicines

• the concept of government transparency and public accountability of elected officials

• direct election of Senators

I'm sure I left off some important other achievements of the original Progressive movement. Modern day progressives would do well to look to the origins of the name. It's a hopeful political ideology, and the best chance for delivering practical change in the present, rather than trusting in some distant utopia.

I haven't listened to your podcast but I also don't listen to any Bitcoin podcasts. I'd vote 3 but not because I oppose your viewpoints.

I just wanted to say that it's important to be clear and stand for what you believe. Your name sets the expectation of what kind of content and viewpoint you provide.

The people that gloss over your podcast by name alone are close minded. They're not ready to hear what you have to say. They can stew in their bubble until they've grown up enough to be able to handle listening to an opinion opposite of theirs.

Keep your name. Be proud of it. I think it encompasses you very well.
