Anyone know if a #Yubikey is able to support nostr nsecs/signing? I would think this is a perfect fit for a hardware auth device. #asknostr #nsec #authentication

1. No (although they might be able to add support for it if they wanted to)

2. It's not a perfect fit, because you don't want to lose your Nostr identity when you lose or break your Yubikey

Yubis are meant to have backups, it's a perfect fit

💯

The whole point of a hardware key is that you cannot extract the private keys. Since when does Yubico allow you to do that?

Sure, rely on an old device's "permanent vulnerability" then. 😄

I think the idea here would be to add your nsec to one of the additional smart card slots. Similar to how you can add your own GPG key to your YubiKey

If Yubico adds native support for nostr key import and signing, then that would work. Otherwise, you'd have to store an encrypted nsec, which doesn't bring any benefit over storing it on your computer directly.

I looked into this and thought it would be great. I am not very technical, but failed to find a solution for secp256k1 support. I believe Nostr and Bitcoin share this need. So there must be a solution as Casa uses Yubikey for Bitcoin multisig quorum.

I think a USB+NFC variant which can be used on phone and desktop would be an interesting UX

would be awesome if yes

So agree with this ideas... #yubikey #Nostr
