Saturday afternoon rant:

I enjoy sports as much as the next dude bro, seeing people become the best at their craft and do things I cannot is cool, but man I can't stand it when people yell at the TV like the players can hear it or it will affect anything

Seriously what's going through your brain? It gives me such porn-brain vibes like you're pretending you're in the room

I mean go to the stadium, yell your head off that I get but sitting on your couch with a packet of doritos, jumping around screaming and clapping is just straight weird fam and I refuse to normalise this!

Good take... Although I will find my self making audible celebrations if we score a goal or something

Lol I mean if you enjoy it do you, if you want to sing in the shower, dance while you do chores have at it, It doesn't have to make sense, but those things don't bother others! When people get emotional about sports and act like assholes that's where I draw the line, like bro chill we all watching the same thing here

Feel you...I always felt those were lower IQ people 😬

Lol oh now you just roasting em, that's 100% my dad you're describing! But as for this rant its inspired by my neighbours, dude is yelling at the top of his lungs, swearing and throwing shit and I can hear everything!

Bread and Circus keeps them placated and distracted

I do see an element of that, like its so arbitrary, like if you enjoyed this sport wouldn't you part take in it too? I can see how it can be used as a method of escapism

The entire "entertainment/sports" industry is built on the concept of distraction. A people distracted or enticed into infighting are FAR easier to control that a united congruent populace.

I suppose so, I used to watch a lot more sport but with all the ads stuffed in your face during a game it just so annoying, i'll watch the occational final or some big game, but I know dudes that make this their whole ass personality, like manchester united until I die, like calm down bro, just because you bought a team shirt doesn't mean anything

The only saving grace for soccer is the lack of commercial breaks. I can just imagine the "ad breaks" during the gladiator fights.... "Columns! We've got your columns! Big columns, small columns, ANY Columns..."

LOL! I can picture it now, this decapitation was sponsored by Proximos slave traders, if you're looking for a quality servent, think Proximo Slave Traders, come on down and check out our latest inventory fresh from Carthage and Germania

Too funny!

I’m sorry I do this. Please forgive me. I also do it when watching series. YouTube too.

I was going to say yes, until I watched that clip and definitely do not want to be imagined like that hahah.

The characters don’t even have to die for me to get teary... It’s in a very manly way of course though!! #manlycryingisathing 😅

LOL yes we are men, men are what we are:

You have a clip for everything! 😆

What a dumb rant. It's completely fine for ppl to emote about things they are viewing. Do you think ppl crying when they watch movies is also stupid? Obviously the tv sports viewers don't actually think the players can hear what they're saying.

I was being facetious about the reason for the shouting, it's just kinda arbitrary, are you yelling for highlights? No, are you yelling at every game that comes on no, you emotionally anchoring yourself to some random team for some random outcome.

Like bro you've never even been to Liverpool why you crying about the team?

As for crying in movies, I mean that can be so many things you could have emotional connections to that situation, like it happened to you I don't know.

But sports meh, I don't get it! And I play sports, I played soccer, rugby, cricket, I did karate, I get being in the thick of it and feeling heat of the moment then, but for watching it, nah

I'm not a team sports tv watcher or supporter but my take on those who are is that it satisfies a need for a 'tribal identity'. For showing a steadfast loyalty to their 'tribe' through thick and thin, through victory and defeat. And thus I'm not surprised at their level of emotional involvement, and vicarious 'capture' even through a tv screen.

Oh I get that it's the modern-day gladiator arena, its being able to attach yourself to a group, to feel the emotions of winning and losing without having really anything at stake, but some people get way too attached to this simulation, its as if they're really on the field making a difference
