any guess on what is driving the uptick?
I think a few things:
- Damus app on App Store with integrated uploads
- Nostr getting major news outlet attention: Forbes, yahoo news, NYTimes on nostr, Joe Rogan
- Twitter failing
- #Bitcoin energy and interest increasing
how much does it cost to maintain such a big free uploader sir
It varies month to month: so far rough costs per month weee;

-$180 (projected) I think we tackled some huge data-out overages, will find out end of the month..
any learnings to share from optimization? what were the big wins?
- My videos were getting slammed, mostly Chinese videos.. Since removed Chinese traffic has dropped like 90% and data-out costs are way down and inline for first time, while daily uploads have been increasing... Likely wasn’t malicious, but being used as a video server for millions, something like that.. ex. Someone in Shanghai was uploading security video footage from multiple cameras every few hours.. There was a daily news channel.. Tons of other stuff..
- My main image directory had indexing on, so people were able to scrape all images.. Closed that and now charge to View All media....
- There are still some other features #[6] is helping me with, bots, and caching..
