Yeah I do agree zaps are pure signal, whereas follower count may not be. But similar to the push for #onlyzaps - I think there’s still a lot of value in collaborative exchange that doesn’t rely on sending someone money. And let’s also consider our own privilege in even being *able* to zap away 21, 100, or even 1000 sats to a stranger on the internet to signal our support - but definitely not everyone can afford to participate in that kind of exchange. So yeah zaps are an incredible tool but shouldn’t become exclusionary to those who can’t participate. It just creates another kind of class system and paid-for attention market open only to those who can afford it.

100% agree with you on all — maybe #zaps received is just another marker that lives on profiles alongside followers and reactions to help people discern the quality of the profile. It could also be discretionary where npubs decide whether they’d like to display it or not. According to nostr.band you have received 150K sats with a follower count of 1577. That to me speaks volume about the quality of your notes 💯

I thought this was interesting, and reminded me of our conversation. nostr:note1p6ayyr7g7qtd87fg0z9keck2ql93ml7xhrrlpp5esrjx8mkke23s5729v3

Thank you for sending. It’s very interesting to think about indeed. I suppose it boils down to whether #v4v can be successful without gamification and I agree exchanges of value should hold up without it. It might just be that proponents of said gamification are trying to accelerate the timeline and increase the user base. I can see how that could be a turn off though.

#nostr being open, I ultimately think that everyone will find their market fit regarding the implementation of #zaps and #v4v. Private and anonymous zaps already address some of the issues to some extent.
