Guys you can't mute your way passed the bots, they make new npubs for every post
Right now the best solution is using WoT relays, which are just a bandaid for now while we come up with smarter ideas and implementations

As your only relays and the spam will be gone

One option to stop the spammers would be to require #Nostr users to authenticate their npub with a #ProofOfPersonhood protocol to prove that they arenât a bot. There are solutions such as #GitcoinPassport that aggregate various PoP systems to make it less inconvenient for users to prove that they are a unique human.

I would say it would be inconvenient for users to prove their personhood so hopefully a more convenient alternative is found. This would be a fair criticism but I donât get why you would call #ProofOfPersonhood protocols a scam.

Are you referring to #Idena specifically? If so, then the token emission is to rewards the validators of the network like for the block reward in #Bitcoin.
But not all #ProofOfPersonhood systems have their own blockchain. #GitcoinPassport is an aggregator of PoP protocols which some are built on top of #Ethereum. Gitcoin also has a token and yes, this one has no real utility but you donât need it to validate your identity on the passport neither do you need to buy iDNA tokens to validate your identity Idena.

Spammers can do proof of work as well, usually with much better hardware than users
But while normal users post a few posts per day, the spammer does multiple per second? Isn't it different magnitude of required computational power, making spam way more expensive?
Sure, but ReplyGuy costs to spam are basically zero currently, and what income are these replies producing? At some level of difficulty, there is negative benefit to spamming this way. Relays can apply difficulty requirements for new npubs and existing, and keep raising the difficulty if needed
I like this idea. Huge PoW to register on a relay might make using disposable npubs useless (too expensive) for an adversary (spammer)

Wot relays are not the best solution, nor the only solution. Using topical relays and auth supporting relays is an equally valid solution.
Relay management is the right strategy.
I havenât seen a single reply guy message and I use none of your relays nor any web of trust relays.
Rather than paying for relays could we use HODL invoices to allow us to post?
Then if we are spammers or bots the transaction can be completed by the relays thus claiming funds.
This still allows free relays for good faith users but adds a cost to spammers.
Do you remove all other relays?
What about just the need to spend like 1 SAT to make a comment on someoneâs note (or optional feature)?
It could also be biased on WoT, so if that score is reached to X value between two accounts or if they are following each other, there is no longer a need to spend the SAT.
