Anyone running an #Umbrel ever tried to update an app and have it sit at 99% for HOURS until you finally decide to reboot your Umbrel, only to have that app show as "Not Running" and you can't interact with it at all through the GUI?

I had this happen with NextCloud last week, and still haven't figured out how to resolve the issue. Looking at the logs for NextCloud shows the following error:

nextcloud_app_proxy_1 | Error waiting for port: "The address 'nextcloud_web_1' cannot be found"

nextcloud_app_proxy_1 | Retrying...

The above just seems to endlessly repeat.

Looking through the Umbrel OS logs for "nextcloud" returned the following result:

Mar 03 20:30:28 umbrel dockerd[503]: time="2025-03-03T20:30:28.630296620Z" level=error msg="[resolver] failed to query DNS server: 1.1.1.1:53, query: ;nextcloud_web_1.\tIN\t A" error="read udp 10.21.0.31:44480->1.1.1.1:53: i/o timeout"

Anyone have an idea of what to try in order to resolve the above?

Yep buddy I had it. Had to factory reset. Was a bitch. I think it’s a big relative to the 1.3 update. I don’t know if it’s solved with 1.4

I had pretty much the same issue with my umbrel... but couldn't find a solution. That node has been more or less abandoned at this point...

i was just looking at our channel earlier 😟 we have a lot of sats in our channel. do you want me to do a force close?

Yeah go ahead - I assumed everyone already force closed by now. I won't have time until summer to get back to it unfortunately. I tried loading the wallet into sparrow to sweep the sats but onchain wallet shows as zero balance... I think I've got the wrong one? Are there two onchain wallets associated with a lightning node? Like one for the bitcoin node part amd one for the lightning wallet? Idk, I dont fully understand it.

Is there a way to recover if I spin up a new node on a different machine but use the private keys from the old one?

Okay, I'll close it. You have 4M sats on your end that you'll be getting.

Restore your seed words into Blixt Wallet and force close all of the channels. Then send the funds to another wallet when they're all closes.

Thanks man ill give it a shot

Yeah, I am not using my Umbrel for a Bitcoin/Lightning node anymore. Went with Start9 for that. It's just a family media server and shared file storage, now.

start69 > cumbrel

I had a similar issue where I was not able to uninstall or really interact with apps. I found this and it helped: https://community.umbrel.com/t/cant-uninstall-app/20580/8

I think I might have been able to resolve the issue using this! We'll see shortly. Waiting for NextCloud to finish updating again.

My issues were not that but a few reboots sorted it out in the end.

The final fix for me was to change to Start9 πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

it sounds like that docker container is boned, or at least the networking part of it. you could ssh into it and try to start/restart the network container. i forget the umbrel something like cd umbrel/apps/nextcloud/

docker ps | grep nextcloud_web_1

docker start nextcloud_web_1

see if it starts? or at least what other error messages pop up.

i would try to manually start the docker compose container and see what's up with it and/or manually update the docker-compose.yml to pull down the latest nextcloud image.

I ran into this too many times in a row and had to switch away from umbrel 🫑 wish you all the best figuring it out!
