Growing up I didn’t have any homework during school breaks. Zero tutoring.

Now I see kids with a ton of homework; taking lessons and crap.

What happened? Let the kids play!!!

If there is no internal motivation to learn, it's all forgotten after the test. That's why public schools are so inefficient; they have to repeat same things every year, and then add some.

Standardized testing is what happened.

Schools are now teaching to the test instead of testing what is taught.

I grew up (and still live in) a state that is constantly fighting for last place in education in the U.S. This is why we homeschool.

My philosophy is this: if you can't get all the day's work done in the day, that's the teacher's fault for poor scheduling. Homework should only be studying for tests or maybe an occasional reinforcement worksheet if it's a tough lesson.

Then again, I have no intentions to ever put my children in public schools so they won't have to worry about that themselves.

I know that some people have nice memories from school, like my wife do.

But for me it was true, and know a lot more people that feels similar, or that was boring, or a waste of time.
