Corn syrup is our regional sugar, just like how in Europe they use beet sugar. We can get coke with cane sugar in it super easy, it's called Mexican coke and still comes in a glass bottle.
Sugar cane is expensive to grow because it's pretty brutal on the agricultural workers and notorious for labor abuses. I've heard a big bonus to the Alligator Alcatraz is that it is in Florida where the captive labor force could be put in sugar fields which might bring down the price of cane sugar but idk if cane sugar in our soda will ever happen again sans regulation. The EU and probably SA have regulations against it which is why it's not popular there.
Corn syrup is not good for you, but it really does make some delicious tasting food. I put it in my French toast casserole. Corn starch is crucial in making things crunchy and why so much of the food elsewhere doesn't have the right mouth feel.
"captive labour force"
You mean slavery?
Southern hemisphere has all the sugar?
I mean that's pretty obviously an end game for current policy direction. Penal labor is legal under the 13th amendment which is why we have such an enormous population in prison. And why we're building more and more facilities and criminalizing immigrants more.
What is cheaper than importing illegal immigrant labor? 🤔
Sugar is mostly grown around the equator. I think here we're could grow it most in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, and Hawaii.
Yeah they say that there are 4 states growing it but they'll need way more. Guess they'll have regular coke and corn syrup coke variants at Different price points
Which is what they already have now 🤷♀️

It's about climate not "brutality against workers"
Cane sugar is a sub tropical plant.
Florida is the only state where it is economically viable to grow.
Correct. Where supply is constricted via geographic limitations like the climate needs of an agricultural commodity and there is a high global demand then you have the conditions which create incentives for abusive labor exploitation to maximize profit margins. See sugar, cotton, avocados, bananas, cocaine, etc. throughout economic history 🤷♀️

Also you gotta be some kinda fucked up evil scum to support slavery like you are
Goodness is a bright light shining on an object and evil is the dark shadow the light casts. Both concepts distract us from understanding the reality of the object. This is not the first time I've been called evil and I'm sure it won't be the last, no matter, I am at peace with who I am.
But also I don't support slavery, I think you misread me? 😅
"a big bonus" reads as supporting the idea.
