Making art makes you an artist.

It really depends on how you define “artist”.

What makes an artist? If it’s human expression, then couldn’t you argue that the words you type and the adjustments you make are a form of such expression? Not all art requires “skill” but does require an input to conceive it.

I agree that it feels wrong to call yourself an artist if all you do is type 3 words and get a masterful “drawing”. In this case you merely used a tool that did something for you. That then leads to another question: how many words or what other criteria is necessary to say something was expressed in a creative way?

We can also do a fun exercise with this. Imagine in the distant future humans lost the ability to create artistically and all they did was prompt AI. Would you consider those people artists if the output felt artistic and had an impact on people? Or are all artists gone?

AI is only the latest digital tool. It's not different to any other digital tools.

Unless you meant that only analog art is art.

And then, we should question if any art that uses any type of tool or support other than the same artist, is by that definition art.

Is it art when you depend on a durable canvas and an advanced chemichal industry that produces pigments, instead of blowing your handprints on a cave using charcoal dust and animal fat?

I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this, but passing off the Midjourney showcase as your own art does not make you an artist.

Everyone is an artist

I am a mostly traditional artist, sometimes I use digital to paint. AI mimics the at and stle of real living artists, in my genre fantasy it has generated further devaluation and fatigue

But yes everyone thinks they are artists now

Yes you can use ai to create art, using elements but please add something of your own before selling yourself as art

An artists using AI to creat a picture with a super prompt can be in a similar way creative as an artists using pen & paper. AI is just another tool.

It's just a matter of time until the hability to master the art of super prompts will be admired, because artists will create extraordinary things with the help of AI.

Same is true for other creative workers, like computer scientists improving their work output with the help of AI.
