Why is it that journalists have zero integrity today?

It’s almost a prerequisite to not have any integrity to be a journalist.

How does that happen?

They get paid very poorly and usually per article. They produce what will get published and what will get clicks not the truth.

Stop paying journalists in fiat

# Bitcoin fixes this

According to nostr:npub16dmvfhm7uwkxnhxg30k6aczw23wxhgvs62n3puzl5tykpa4aa8esja83yd (paraphrasing) journalists now all come from the same universities as the people who end up in politics and other high places.

They love that connection, as opposed to the old school ‘blue color’ journalists who saw themselves as a check on power.

Plus all publications are owned by a handful of publishers that are financially linked to clown world. Journalists instinctively feel they have to toe the line or fail at their career.

Right, but how does it create such a universally corrupt set of people?

Universities are corrupt, media is corrupt, and they’re just pawns of corporations and politicians.

There are no journalists, just prostitutes today.

How does someone go? I want to be a prostitute and make 30k a year.

What’s in it for them?

What’s the point?

Vanity points I guess? The in-group status, the feeling of being a gatekeeper, all these things do weird shit to people. The prisoner experiment comes to mind.

Also, people get stuck in habits. When things gradually get worse they don’t notice and now they’re stuck in a career that isn’t what they hoped it would be, but it pays the mortgage and keeps the family afloat so quitting is scary.

Stanford Prison Experiment.

They’re real life… subjects or the doctors?

The guards I would say…

Ohhh.

I was getting my studies confused.

Yes, the guards treating the inmates poorly simply because the guards had power.

Exactly! Power corrupts.

It doesn't create them, the system selects for them. Publisher's owned by clown world hire journalists who write for clown world. Journalists who write trust not get paid.

The high cost of publishing and network effect of established publications is a moat that prevents independent journalism. Nostr can fix this

There is some great independent journalism to be found on platforms like Substack already.

The Racket and Public News come to mind.

I brought that up to my grandad once, and he said you act like this is something new, and reminded me that journalism started the Spanish American war.

Great point.

They give themselves great cover as “arbiters of truth,” but the major ones are propagandists.

Who has integrity?
