This is helpful, thank you. What happens if we don't ask permission?

We are here to teach Bitcoiners about radio. We will roll out content that addresses this. For many Bitcoiners, government licensing is outside of their personal ethos. Ham radio provides a space to gain operational proficiency in radio and experimentation but it does come with some rules. We will address the trade-offs that are made in order to utilize ham radio. Ham radio is inherently a non-private way of communicating but it provides educational benefits and communication opportunities that we believe many Bitcoiners will find useful. It also can be very fun.

Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own actions/choices.

In short, this website is where the FCC publishes all of its enforcement actions.

I appreciate this perspective. I'm thinking that as States crack down on ISPs, alternative means of communicating (voice and data [nostr and bitcoin txns in particular]) may become vital for freedom...

swallow your pride and ask permission to practice and build up skills. and its a fun hobby to increase interest in your kids on RF, comms & electronics.

you could not ask permission and probably get away with it for awhile until someone decides to go on a fox hunt

I wouldn't say it's "pride" so much as love of liberty.

In #bitcoin we try to avoid KYC for how it could be used in the future. I'm just thinking about the parallel concern with comms, and (literally) what the consequences would be.

I can understand that. but theres no real way around it. you can buy a radio build an antenna and start broadcasting without permission no one can stop you but then be ready to pay the fines if you get caught.

Seeing this on the repost way after the fact.

You'll be able to learn more, faster if you're legal. Just use an address that isn't your home for the license. You just need to be able to receive mail there. If SHTF nobody will care about licenses. It's worth paying the liberty price now for the advanced skills you'll have available later. Studying for the test will teach you things that may someday prevent damage to an irreplaceable radio, also. It's a tradeoff.

Like driving a car, or sailing a boat between ports, or flying a plane. Permissionless radio will also result in fines. I personally am not troubled by it. It doesn’t violate my philosophical tenants. But There is still quite a bit you can learn by yourself without a license it just means you can’t legally transmit, listening doesn’t require a license. Transmission is the thing which could cause a harm. There is a part of the spectrum which you can transmit without a license (see link) if you stay within other requirements. But the licensing process is a key means of gaining the basic knowledge.

I believe this is still accurate https://www.arrl.org/lf-low-frequency

Thank you. Bookmarked.
