Great work nostr:npub176p7sup477k5738qhxx0hk2n0cty2k5je5uvalzvkvwmw4tltmeqw7vgup , this is a must read. Implementing WoT well is critical for making nostr live up to the promise.

One takeaway in particular I appreciated was the distinction between direct propagation, transposition, and co-citation as different ways to build out a trust graph. Coracle only uses direct propagation, but each method has different characteristics that can add nuance to recommendations.

Read it!

Proper WoT is not just critical for nostr to work, it’s critical for the internet at large to work. (Although “nostr” here could be used interchangeably with “internet”)

Producing garbage is extremely cheap and getting increasingly cheaper, or, said another way, it’s getting increasingly more expensive to discern what is garbage.

You either go with an authority that helps you remove 99.99% of the existing garbage or you use an approach that, much like cryptography, makes the cost of putting garbage in front of your eyes asymmetrically expensive.

We’ve tried the authority-first approach and it has led to the current state of manipulation, polarization and reduction of individuals’ agency.

WoT is as important as PoW

Please explain WoT. 🙏

Web of Trust:

Information that you allow in is filtered and weighted by those you already trust/follow online. Thus through the six degrees of separation all information can still travel if valuable, but bits and garbage will get halted very quickly.

#peercuration <- the answer

How to I get to use a relay the requires WoT and I am not approved as of yet?

Yeah it would be nice if client devs actually empowered users to do their own filtering instead of telling them they’ll fuck it all up.

Agree! "Trustless" is a misnomer.
