Damus (via nostr+bitcoin) is allowing me to use the network effects of a free an open social graph to build replacements of broken systems. This means we can replace centrally controlled products with open and decentralized alternatives. For example, a storefront on your profile page, selling stuff directly from businesses to consumers p2p with no kyc. This is what fascinates me most about building Damus.

- Zap splits
- First class Longform content support
- Zap comments appearing in threads and DMs
- Integrated wallets via nip47
- Damus purple subscription (private relay, features like multi-account)
Future:
Store fronts, selling stuff with zaps, stories, + lots more!

But I can see how you would use this concept to create p2p market places.
But how can you say "no-kyc"?
Host it with servers in Russia/China?
If they can't enforce KYC, they will just shut it down like they did with The Silk Road.
nostr is not a platform. There is no single place to shutdown. This is the entire point.
Can we call the Twitter like application of specific NIPs a platform or should we continue to waste our breath on making distinctions of no difference rather than working on 2FA? 😼
Yes, but if they make it illegal to run a node/relay or what you want to call it.
Government can easily find the IP of my pc if I host a nostr node/relay.
Then we would have to get the relays/nodes to be hosted in countries like China/Russia.
But I agree on it would be a game of "wack a mole" shutting down relays that can pop up anywhere in the world, on devices the size of a Raspberry Pi.
Much better than 1 central server they could shut down, even if hosted in Russia, and then the problem would be solved for good.
With this system a new relay/node could pop up in China the day after and then they would have to start all over with bribe/pressure to make china shut that one down over lengthy negotiations first.
Host = run the node client.
Maybe it works more like sharing a torrent than running PoW node software.
No matter how the p2p part works, the problem remains - what do we do if they ban the "p2p economy" in the west?
They did not ban "torrenting" yes, but that is also only the music industry that lose on that. The future "p2p" economy is going to destroy the whole fiat system including the banks. They will likely ban this technology this time. Going after those who seed/run a relay/run a node.

There may only be one difference between Twitter and Nostr.

That was it. The people themselves have remained the same. Nostr doesn’t make me happy and i was never a Twitter user. Revolutionary looks different.

User groups, rooms, closed groups based on interests with strict norms. So as an example ppl are protected against #Meme pandemic. Memes are the highest form of aggressions aka i should laugh if other ppl or animals FAIL or have an painful accident etc.

Micro app for backing up and restoring personal Nostr events from relays onto your storage of choice (iCloud, Nextcloud, local file system, etc). Similar to metadata.nostr.com but in iOS / Android app form.
I wrote this down as a Damus feature a while back. Microapp is great for this purpose too. Would microapp require nsec for DMs backup?
Not sure. Need to familiarize myself with NIPs.
Depends on whether the micro app would need to be able to decrypt the DMs. The npub would be sufficient to identify and archive the DMs. The nsec is required for any app that wishes to read the actual messages. That functionality could be delegated to another micro app or the backups could simply be imported to another relay and Damus could connect to it to read the messages.
