It is sad that EU regulators and public opinion are listening to #Greenpeace. This should be exposed properly.

If you are a #Bitcoin miner, don’t abandon this propaganda. Help us, end-users and human rights activists to defend bitcoin on the ongoing attack on PoW in the #EU.

One of the goals of the EU bodies, particularly the European Central Bank (#ECB), for such an approach is to use ā€œa policy tool that disincentivises investing in such assets from the outset and prevents the build-up of transition risk through crypto-assets in the banking systemā€ until 2025.

As end-users of Bitcoin for fundraising and payment instruments, Open Dialogue Foundation concerns that such a policy would directly affect both us and the Bitcoin industry, which services we and other activists use. Especially because the European Commission wants to ā€œcollaborate internationally with different standardisation bodies to develop the energy-efficiency labelā€ for PoW:

ā€œStates shall implement targeted and proportionate measures to lower, and must be ready to stop, the electricity consumption of crypto-asset miners, in line with the proposed Council Regulation on an emergency intervention to address high energy prices.ā€

We need to do educational advocacy - over 200 face to face meetings with MPs and regulators so they can learn and ask questions from bitcoin miners they never ask in public. Just as we did thanks to nostr:npub1kp7jzme0qs3wcqjjmkq6v5fm359sclhc22glhadgtmerlr0h37nsn8487l nostr:npub1hyqrsvl6hle8r5rc9cpshesm0mpcee75tgde4p5lhke5h83dyqqqdwk7cp and nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m last years with #MiCA and #AML Regulations.

We need to be able to defend our rights to use Bitcoin in a legal way. So far it seems that the fight in the EU for Bitcoin is more important for activists than for bitcoiners, because everyone is excited about Bitcoin ETFs in the US, or believes that the market will solve the problem in the EU/move to other jurisdictions, or just doesn't believe in engaging with politicians to educate them. šŸ˜”

And I understand and respect all of that arguments, but we as human rights defenders have no place to move and we operate there, in the EU. šŸ™

We need your support.

Now, before it is too late.

Bitcoin mining uses .5% of total electricity generated annually. Eliminating mining will do nothing to further their climate agenda.

But you know about it. Policymakers don’t know and won’t ask about publicly just to avoid being looking stupid.

Toutes ses lois viennent de la France, le saviez-vous au moins !?

Not only France, but Germany, Austria, Netherland, Spain, Italy and now Belgium also for the next 6 months is playing crucial role while the European Parliament is going for elections. We have 6 months to impact and stop discriminative policy approach to grant ECB power to label #PoW as environmentally unsustainable and decide where you can or can’t invest.

These Greenpeace clowns are disgusting parasites

You are right, but it doesn’t help to change narrative about #bitcoin, we have to be effective in our actions.

Change only happens by feeling the need to. Discussions with these ideological programmed people lead to nowhere, believe me.

Look, I work with policymakers for over a decade. They are also people just like you and me. Some of them are bad actors, but not all of them. That is a beauty and privilege of the living in democracies. Im not speaking about authoritarian/dictatorship countries.

But to be more practical: look how bitcoiners also in fact apply censorship for activists not willing to associate /transact #bitcoin p2p with someone who opposes to regime publicly. As you can see - it is important for all of us to be not in a grey area.

What a pitty 😢. We need to orangepill greenpeace.

I guess they have an agenda. But the problem is that there is almost no voices to oppose them from the industry. Just to be vocal in tweets it is not enough. More effective in a long term to educate politicians so all upcoming regulations don’t harm us. We can’t play the game ā€œI don’t careā€. Do we want or not, we are going to ask democracies to help us release political prisoners in the authoritarian states. We do so for over 14 years for now. So I want to be able to defend both my activists suffering from repressions and help them use bitcoin without labeling it ā€œenvironmentally unsustainableā€ or ā€œthreat to financial integrityā€ in G7 countries.

It is not an abstract issue. We did it with nostr:npub1kp7jzme0qs3wcqjjmkq6v5fm359sclhc22glhadgtmerlr0h37nsn8487l who is literally our angel šŸ‘¼, patiently attending almost all meetings we organized. But he can’t do all alone. We need faces/testimonials and participation of bitcoin miners in the meetings too in defense of PoW.

šŸ’Æ we canā€˜t play the game ā€žI donā€˜t careā€œ. We lose too much ground on environmentally friendly people who have no clue. Its harder to change their minds later. Its no problem for #bitcoin but a problem for innocent individuals who care about the environment.

Exactly. This is how propaganda /misinformation works. If we don’t work/defend our narrative/position - why and who else is going to defend it?

BITCOIN WILL NEED A COMMITTED ABOVE GROUND CULTURE OF RESISTANCE TO SUPPORT AN INEVITABLE UNDER GROUND RESISTANCE

I don’t want to be underground using #bitcoin. Why #BlackRock should be allowed to trade token of bitcoin and human rights activists would hide in underground ?! No way. We should defend our rights.

Greenwar is a FUD business. Their business model is to generate profits from fear. they have no incentive to be rationale or educated about anything. that would be contrary to their mission.

a good book to check out is https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/56918041-fake-invisible-catastrophes-and-threats-of-doom written by cofounder of Greenpeace

Greenwar just like AML/CFT laws abused to make this world even more discriminating. The idea and reason to defend environment is important and we need it, but solutions proposed to deal with it brings us to opposite results.

so what do you propose?

I propose:

1) prepare joint submission of bitcoin miners & human rights defenders testimonials. We did the first version of it to ESMA, but honestly there are just a few voices, we need more to be representative:

https://en.odfoundation.eu/a/724499,defend-pow-submission-to-esma/

2) to conduct over 200 face-to-cafe meetings before June 2024 with EU politicians and regulators to educate them so they can ask questions they will never ask in public as we did in the past on other regulations: https://en.odfoundation.eu/a/723762,btc-coalition-summary-of-works-2022-2023/

3) support our campaign so we have capacity to work on that issue systematically:

https://geyser.fund/project/defendpow

Bitcoin destroys the climate of corruption around the globe.

But even the strongest technology needs support. We live in the world of narratives and perceptions. So far negative perceptions are dominating, it is changing in the US because there are a lot of active bitcoin defenders in the Hill and media. But that is not the case in the EU - there is almost no culture to work with policymakers and as a result banking industry has a full carte blanche in the defining future of regulation in the EU for crypto-assets as Bitcoin.

I don't know how you still have the patience to deal with the neverending stream of bullshit from those bureaucrats who think it's their God-given right to tell everyone else how to live, but I am happy that you do.

Very few of us have the patience to deal with that level of ignorance and deceit.

But you are right, if their ignorance goes unchallenged, then more and more bullshit will keep coming, and they won't be happy until the innovation is neatly locked away and declawed in a box they completely control.

Such lack of imagination.

I have to admit and it makes me bullish, that most of politicians are not aware about the importance of #PoW, but once they are able to ask questions and see the arguments they change their minds. It doesn’t mean that they become bitcoiners immediately, but those who care about human rights - stand on our side and support our recommendations for amendments. Also we know and cooperate with those politicians over decade - they know for example how #Kazakhstan and other Central Asia dictators abuse #AML/CFT regulations for transnational repression against their opponents. We speak with politicians with concrete examples, my case including.

This is how we were able to defend PoW during the drafting Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (#MiCA) and the same during AML Regulation in the #EU.

In the US #bitcoin is a commodity, in the EU is it a payment instrument in the upcoming AML regulation.

But now we need to explain/educate in the same concept: human rights defenders and deep knowledge of bitcoin miners about PoW.

The fight on the AML Regulation is also not ended, there are a lot of things to do, especially in the defense of p2p transactions and self-hosted wallets.

But again we succeeded in the EU to expose the need of protection of the data of crypto assets services providers and banks from the abuse of third countries. In the US this debate and work on the new AML package just has started.

The same way I have the patience to deal with your bullshit.

No one asks you to participate in our discussion if you don’t want to.

Patience is a good quality, but learning and ability to listen other sides opinions before labeling someone with empty statements it is also a very good quality. Imagine that most of politicians would have your attitude towards to #bitcoin or you personally: that is an experience usually activists have in authoritarian regimes.

So if you want to be constructive- bring your arguments and participate in the open, respectful discussion. I managed to resist to 3 dictatorship attacks and smear campaign in more than 20 languages against me and I don’t allow them to silent me or my activists. So I'm more than resistant to your labels and emotions and don’t want you to attack my readers also. But I'm happy to answer if there is rationality in your questions.

This account is compromised; don't engage with it: trolls use it to trigger people

Just mute this account

You remind me of Greta Thunberg.

Im sorry, but it is your wrong perception, just can wish you to come back to the reality. I have nothing to do with this strange teenager and your fear.

We are at #nostr, not dictatorship space. You don’t like my position - unfollow me or argue your position, don’t put just empty labels.

#co2isnotpollution #climatehoax

The neat thing about bitcoin is that you can still use it when they make it illegal. That's literally the whole point.

Yes and no. I don’t and partly can’t operate in a grey zone for security reasons as human rights defender.

My security is provided by the EU state, which at least defends me from the physical/political attacks of dictators or their proxies.

We also need scalability of the use of bitcoin - access in the apple or google stores on mobile phones of activists in the authoritarian states.

We need our donors - ordinary private people not to be afraid to associate with us because of the use of ā€œdangerous for environment technologyā€ as it says in the mainstream narrative now or even worse- after labeling that way after the adoption of the regulation in favor for the proposal of the European Central Bank.

The same unfortunately with EU policymakers: we need their support to defend political prisoners in the authoritarian countries - we don’t have other mechanisms. So we have to win/change their minds.

The good news - we can do it and we did it in the past many times. We just need to have support from bitcoin miners.

The EU is not going to support a technology that defunds it. Bitcoin is an existential threat to institutions like the EU that are funded by a money printer. It doesn't matter what we say, at the end of the day that logic is inescapable, and they know it.

Let’s don’t live in our perceptions but meet reality: I was asked dozens of times just to show what is #bitcoin and ā€œto show bitcoinā€. They also shocked learning how easy banking data of the EU/US citizens can be weaponized just by the simple request from the dictator. So we need to educate them and show alternative.

Activists succeed to defend encryption and defending it with every attack. The same we should do with #bitcoin.

There are bad actors and good actors as everywhere. You can’t convince bad actors but you can and should use your right, your privilege to execute what you want from the elected by you legislators and appointed on your taxes regulators - you are citizen most probably of the democratic country, no?

Their argument doesnt hold up under scrutiny.

Could you elaborate more please?

Engage the power companies. Once they understand what Bitcoin mining can do to monetize building out capacity and contributing to demand response it's over for the politicians.

Realistically it is possible only in a combination with #bitcoin miners. Im a human rights defender and can’t offer them mining services. I don’t have capacity and expertise to be alone as a side in that talk. Im happy to work on it if someone from miners is ready to go together.

Connect with Satoshi Action Fund. They may be US only but could probably make introductions.

Thank you. Im in touch with them, but will ask again about introductions.
