Been looking into SimpleX Chat a bit more. Maybe better than Telegram and Signal. Anyone have used it before and recommend?

nostr:npub1f6ugxyxkknket3kkdgu4k0fu74vmshawermkj8d06sz6jts9t4kslazcka any views of SimpleX Chat vs other Chat apps like Telegram and Signal. Looking for best chat app for security ultimately 🙏

I have been testing and using SimpleX for over a year now. I have had many conversations with Evgeny and it has been amazing to see how far it has come. I posted the podcast someone linked to this chat. It's highly technical but so worth it and you should definitely see why I say ilthe develooment is in good hands. Evgeny even discusses it's current shortcomings and that is so refreshing.

I recommend both SimpleX (and Briar), they both have PFS. Adoption is important for privacy and security. IMO Signal/Molly (Hardened fork of Signsl) has more users and is easy to use so it's good for day to day e2ee communication and normie adoption while SimpleX and Briar are for more specialized use cases.

Both SimpleX and Briar have been successfully audited. SimpleX is my recommended go-to for private anonymous communication. SimpleX is well on its way to being a Matrix killer IMO (which I also still currently recommend for business use) then possibly a Signal killer.

0xchat looks cool but is not as robust in it's design or encryption as SimpleX and it has not been audited so it currently does nit pass our strict guidelines for recommendation.

That's what I wanted to know!

Where does Telegram fit into it all?

I'm assuming lesser than Signal and SimpleX?

I do not recommend Telegram for anything. It's not privacy tech, disguised as privacy tech. Telegram's E2EE is not applied by default, an investigation out of Germany concluded that Telegram shares data with governments, though Telegram says it has never happened.

According to their privacy policy Telegram logs user IP addresses and metadata and stores it for up to 12 months. Their privacy policybalso states that upon receiving a court order that "confirms you are a terror suspect" they may disclose your IP and phone number to authorities.

I have witnessed this on twitter during the blm protests, all the far-right anti-protestors were having their telegram convos leaked in almost real time while the BLM protestors were largely using Signal and did not suffer from these Twitter leaks.

I do not trust Telegram's commitment to privacy and security at all.

Thanks, I was aware but need to look at again.

🫡🤙

For sure better than Telegram.

Signal is pretty solid, but SimpleX solves it's few weak spots. Unlike Signal, it requires no phone number or any user identifiers at all.

It uses the same protocol as Signal too iirc so it has forward secrecy, cryptographic deniability, etc

A year old, a lot has improved, but here is a podcast with the creator if you want to go more in depth on the details: https://optoutpod.com/episodes/s3e02-simplexchat/

Thanks will zap ya later!

I like simplex for chat, but it always drops calls. I'm not sure about it's level of security.

We were using SimpleX for the group chat. Unfortunately most of the group members quit because of the performance issues and crashes. Now it seems better. But my group is gone 🤔😑

Same. I quit bc of that.

Oxchat maybe better?

I know a bunch of nostr people here to have a chat. However, my in fiat life it is hard to convince people to use nostr and nostr ecosystem tools. It needs time, and when the time comes yes 0xChat will be the one of the best options. Thanks so much.

I wanted to give 0xChat a try, but I either must input my nsec (actually not an option) or use Amber. Do you know what Amber is?

Calls a really dependent on a very job quality connection and don't handle changes to network state well, as in the case of cell tower hand offs.

Large groups (25 or maybe 50+) do not perform reliably yet, but, that is improving.

It's really very decent for small groups that wish to be secure.

It's feature set is very forward thinking and if it keeps improving, it will definitely replace signal for me.

Highly recommend @simplex. It the main with #signal being a close backup. I do find #signal to be easier to on board 👍🏽
