Why nobody really has conversation here on #nostr ? Plenty of quips and quotes, but in-depth technical conversations about cryptography or bitcoin do not exist. I love the spirit, but was expecting more bitcoin devs and hackers, but it’s more like twitter of bitcoin with people focusing on personalities and 99% of posts are not in depth. Might as well have a character limit, because nobody reads long posts. I’ve only gotten reactions from short quips, and my questions go unanswered in #asknostr so I’m wondering is it just a case of small crowd? Do I need to add a hundred relays to actually get conversation with someone about software or protocols? I have 8 relays in there now. I love nostr but I’m confused about its purpose. I want to help #grownostr but my first recommendation would be for everyone to open up a bit more and talk, so new people see a vibrant community having conversations.

People suck, idk what else to say. If Digit ever gets here it will get a lot better

There’s always bitcointalk.org but that’s like the opposite side of the spectrum with a tortuous 90s interface and no mobile client access. I really want something in the middle lol

I just found one issue - your reply shows up on nostrudel.ninja but not #primal (after I originally found your post in #asknostr feed on Primal)

Thanks for the clue - maybe my shit isn’t broadcasting

Shenanigans afoot for sure

I'm 99℅ sure my shit isn't broadcasting, or isn't sufficiently, but idk what to do or even how to check

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Been on nostr for a year and a half. I’ve had a lot of good conversations and had many questions answered so my experience isn’t in line with yours. Sometimes notes fall that here. No algorithm and low amount of daily users is likely the cause.

I say don’t let it discourage you. I’ve found nostr users helpful and loquacious and have gotten answers from technical people many times even though I’m not a dev.

I’m not giving up, I just want to hear back from people and find the vibrant conversations. Maybe I go to sleep too early

People are mainly looking for a Twitter replacement, for social media replacement.

Not sure where you got your expectations from. But Nostr supports long-form content, too!

It may be worth checking out Nostr Communities, which many clients support, which function a bit more like a reddit replacement. Also, long form. Satellite.earth may be one of the better clients for exploring some of these features, though certainly others can access them too.

At the end of the day, it's still a relatively small userbase. What sort of dev conversations were you looking for? I can't say I'd be sad to see people getting into the weeds of miniscript personally, though for me, preferably starting from somewhere out on the fairway for a relatively uninitiated pleb.

I’m a non-developer enthusiast most interested in the open source software and hardware that power bitcoin transactions. I build DIY hardware wallets like the seedsigner, and I like to discuss build methods, software for these devices and helping people make the switch from shady corporate HWs like the ledger. I think all of that is mostly out in the fairway. I’ll definitely check out communities because I’m still thinking Reddit-like about social media and hashtags irk me, subreddits make sense. TY!

I can't promise a base level of activity there, but at some point someone's gotta be the one to get it to that critical mass. I suspect using a community almost as a journal and soliciting comments is probably the best way to start things out, but obviously you're free to try what you like :-).

I’m trying to think a bit more like that and share condensed thoughts/media that can be quickly absorbed, in hopes a conversation starts. I was never keen on journaling, so I tend to only want to share something when I think others can make use of it, which I rarely think about my random thoughts. I’m trying, #nostr !!!

I was just poking around on Coracle and saw that there's some movement happening in Groups. Flotilla.social may be exactly the sort of Nostr client you're looking for for a smooth experience. Brand new approach, looks like a snazzy interface.
