Drug use is not a crime and the government has no business telling people what they should or should not put in their own bodies. That said, I have zero empathy for people who die of drug overdoses.

Many of these overdoses would not happen if it were not for the war on drugs.
Prior to prohibition hard liquor was not the norm most people preferred beer or wine. It was just easier to manufacture and distribute in a clandestine manner.
Same goes for fentanyl.
If someone died from drinking whiskey laced with methylene You wouldn't say ethyl alcohol killed them. You would say they were poisoned.
And an overdose is a tragic loss of life.
