This account is stuck around 1500 followers, despite being around for over a year.
There is no growth. There is no retention. There is no discovery. Follow lists are stale.

The only reason that the Laeserin account has more followers is because it got boosted onto the trending list by some Very Big Accounts, during a sudden influx of new users.
That trick can't be performed over and over, by everyone onboarding.
Agreed we should work on more discovery methods
Discovery of what? Brodevs? BTC twitter 1.5?
No thanks.
No doubt. I'm at 28k+ with... 21,929 posts. It feels like maybe 100 active connections. Most are bots or those who auto-followed, then fell by the wayside in the first month.
Yeah, I have a lot of fun, on here, but it's mostly just me and my frens.
And I communicate with most of them on other channels, as well, so Nostr social feeds feel more like a playground and info board, than an essential service.
I actually am mostly interested in OtherStuff, so this doesn't really bother me, that much, but the social feed use case is the main catalyst to run relays, so the feed dying out endangers the relay network.
It's like we're all off on side-chains and nobody wants to mine.
One of the big problems with nostr is, everyone is speaking in their own voids trying their best to be "picked up". This is not going to cut it for most people at all, no one else other than the crazy believers are going to be able to operate in an environment like this.
We need to be better with discovery, remember how @buzzbot worked for a bit? But it only worked on primal cause they're the only ones to have a trending zaps feed so upfront.
Discovery should be a BIG priority for social media client devs.
Just need a client that's actually good for onboarding new people without them having to learn a bunch of stuff.
People can learn how it all works after they get here.
Primal suggests the same 200 accounts to follow for every new user, a bunch of those accounts are bots and wallstreet bros.
That alone has gotta be turning people off
> "The marketing focuses on censorship resistance, but most users aren't posting anything that would get them banned elsewhere."
This is a good point. Maybe Nostr is just being built quietly, slowly getting as ready as possible for when until something happens: some kind of "WikiLeaks dumping war logs" event, or like what silk road did to Bitcoin recognition.
what i post on a daily basis got me banned repeatedly from x and facebook.
this chatter about numbers is about AUDIENCE not contributors, the people who stick around are purely contributors, or they have a large circle of friends also here, and a lot of those people also get banned on x and facebook.
you want to turn nostr into yet another manipulating social media ghetto, have fun. we aren't here for an audience we are here for frens, and to say what the fuck ever we want to say.
on the other social media systems there is neither friends nor the freedom to speak freely.
i like the fact that it's repulsive to normies. good. because they bring nothing to the table.
How are you supposed to make friends, if nobody knows you are here?
You have a massive advantage, being on theforest and getting boosted, regularly, and occasionally trending. Otherwise, nobody would be aware of your existence.
And writing whatever you want, but having nobody else read it, isn't "social media". It's "writing in a private journal".
I don't need the Internet to talk to myself.
Unlikely anyone would be following me without you sharing my stuff, which I'm always grateful for!
>I don't need the Internet to talk to myself.
Yup.
Also, way to empathize with people trying to market real products and services on Nostr. 🥴
They can market all they want, but if there are only 100 people looking at their notes, they won't sell anything.
Can work both ways though. Less competition. I never heard of you before but I saw your messages here a few times and then ended up following.
as an experienced entrepeneur i can say that in some cases, a more contained market with a more intimate approach can yield massively more sales.
so, don't discount it.
I've been here since 2023. Primal shows 1500 followers, amethyst shows 800, daily interactions are basically the same dozen people.
Quality matters more than quantity so none of those numbers concern me. I'm happy with my experience here so I stay.
I see people arguing the assumption that companies need more followers, but I also see small businesses and artists who committed to this platform saying a year here got them as many or more sales than a decade on Xitter.
Follower counts are BS when they are all bots and inactive accounts, which they are on both networks. Lazy fiat spreadsheet brain makes people obsessed with a number that means nothing while they ignore a real quality difference that is hard to quantify.
Good take 🔥
I fully agree.
I’m here because the experience feels real. I don’t care about numbers, but about the connections that emerge.
On Twitter it felt like speaking into the void — here, someone replies. Sometimes even buys.
It’s a quiet but meaningful difference.
I can buy a Toyota with X horsepower and so on down the spec list. I can buy a Lexus with the same major specs.
No words really capture why some people pay extra for the Lexus. Sit in both and drive both, you know commit a little time. After that you will understand. Maybe you still feel the Toyota is better for you, but you do understand why some people buy the Lexus.
Nostr is the Lexus, Xitter is the Toyota. Even ignoring the "other stuff" I'm happy with my Lexus. I'm spoiled now, I'll give up driving before I ever buy another Toyota.
You have 1744 followers per nostr.band but it doesn’t matter because probably only 10% of them are active to any degree. And it doesn’t make a difference if you’re getting value out of the ones who you interact with.
Did you know in the world of digital advertising, anything over 1% is considered a successful response rate?
True Follower counts are a legacy centralized social media abstraction That can’t be really counted here on Nostr since is it decentralized. Your client would need access to every single relay to know what accounts are following you and that’s not scalable or feasible.
My posts are usually well under 1% of followers interacting, even by amethyst numbers. But the quality of those interactions are high.
Conversion rate is > response rate. If quality interaction is a conversion in that analogy, I'm smoking their numbers for sure.
It won’t last. It’s the aol or MySpace of social media. Maybe if it only had more zapathons
