To be honest, Lightning won't be enough to "scale to the intire world population", far from it. We will need Layer 3s.
Discussion
Lightning custodial if it can scale to 8 billion people, Lightning non-custodial cannot.
Custodial Lightning doesn't scale Bitcoin. If that was true any crypto could claim it scales via IOUs.
I read you and thought you have some kind of retardation because your statement is on the level of saying the earth is flat, then I noticed you are a shitcoin monero follower and you don't understand Lightning.
I've always acted civil with you Cypher because I thought you were an honest actor, even if we disagree on some things, but just calling me retarded and a "shitcoin monero follower" is weak
You didn't even address why I'm wrong. You're just angrily name-calling.
Custodians don't scale anything. It's a cop-out answer to scaling.
IOUs can be censored, confiscated, and fractionally reserved. We already had custodians before Bitcoin nothing special about it. It's the problem Bitcoin was trying to solve.
this is always what happens. we are trying to join forces not fight them, we would be the first people to advocate for more privacy for bitcoin and for it to be stronger against the state, and this is always the final conclusion of a bitcoiner: block monero bros, call it a shitcoin.
thankfully there's no blocking on nostr, and it's why we need more of us here, we can share the facts and readers can see that OPs have something to hide. it's a shame, but this just makes XMR stronger and is the exact reason it's easier to just move over than to try to do anything meaningful on btc. The results will speak for themselves with time
Blocked me lmao. Bitcoin maxi fragility increasing over time it seems.
You're a litmus test to see how often I should prune my following list. Verita also, before he fucked back off to the fedi AGAIN.
How exactly does Monero scale when it trades privacy for blockchain bloat?
If what Cypher is saying is true, then every cryptocurrency scales. You just need a custodian to hand out IOUs to users denominated in any crypto of your choice 🤷♂️
But seriously answering your question, Monero is going to enable FCMP later this year which enables L2s. I've seen ZK rollup PoCs being discussed. Too early to say what that will be though.
By the way Bitcoin isn't even a particularly scalable design. Any variant of DAG(Nano) or MimbleWimble(Grin, Beam, MWEB) puts Bitcoin to shame in regards to blockchain bloat
custodial Bitcoin is a shitcoin
Custodial Bitcoin is the best shitcoin
better to not use shitcoins at all
or at least hold off as long as possible.
theyre already saying
oh well it cant be helped, we need custodial solutions
"cypherpunks"
I think so too but it’s okay to put a little trust in some of these solutions. Society runs on trust. We trust other drivers not to be irresponsible and run red lights. We trust restaurants not to spit in our food. We trust farmers to give us good quality meat. Sure there are some bad people that take advantage and hurt others. But for the most part, people are generally good. As long as the incentives are structured the right way, the rug risk can be low.
We are not discussing whether it is good or not, we are discussing whether it is possible or not.
"Even so, we would be in a much more advantageous position than we are now, "
homie doesn't even know his own opinions
I noticed you’re using primal. Primal has a bug where it removes the tags of other users when replying in a thread. Consider using a different client until they fix this. Here’s an example.

“sCaLe To ThE eNtIrE wOrLd.”
No other way to scale it at this point
Yeah I don’t think it’s all that important if bitcoin scales to the entire world, as in a universal monetary unit. It’s obvious Bitcoin wasn’t designed with that particular/granular end in mind. If any individual does not object to the tradeoffs, great, use whatever custodial option you want.
I think people just need to be aware of the tradeoffs. There is always a risk that you’ll lose the wallet in your pocket or get it stolen. That’s why you don’t carry your life savings there. I treat custodial wallets the same way. As long as you keep the large stack in self custody, I think that’s a reasonable tradeoff.
(with apologies to nostr:npub12rv5lskctqxxs2c8rf2zlzc7xx3qpvzs3w4etgemauy9thegr43sf485vg )
why apologies? eCash is rugpull tech..
It makes fractional reserve possible on bitcoin..
its the having prevalent custodians that makes fractional reserve possible.
nothing to do with ecash specifically.
ecash is simply the best custodial solution
I'd happily spin up a mint with my community if it was a convenient way for us to interact with the greater world.
in short
develop all the things.
