Aside from getting in loads of debt (seems to be part of the deal) there used to be a lot to get from a degree, socially, but based on those two points, it may or may not be worth getting a degree.

If I was a student today, I'd feel that the learning part of the equation could be done through library access, local and online communities.

Colleges could offer less expensive, assessment only format.
