Absolutely brother, itβs a celebration all month for my born day π₯ππ
Good morning! Enjoy the holiday!
GM Wolf, most certainly will π₯
Back to school for kiddo tomorrow after 2 weeks off!
What are you up to today? π
Spring break? Gathering wood today. Snows coming.
Yes Spring break, last term of the year starts tomorrow and then end of year I think is around 30th Nov!
Wow, snow is already coming?
The time off is treating you well!
It feels like itβs coming. We have a camp in the hills, where we setup a trapping tent. We were getting wood for it, for when we go up there in the winter. No we donβt trap, itβs just the name of the type of tent π
So youβre allowed to just cut trees and take the wood?
I was wondering about the name, thinking should I keep reading onβ¦is wolf going to tell me he is out trapping bears or wolves π³π
We take wood from slash piles on cut blocks. When a forestry company is done harvesting, they will drag all of the βscrapsβ with skidders to the front of the block and put them in a big pile. Theyβll be there for the fall, and then they usually burn them in the winter.
We get up there with the chain saws and buck up a bunch of wood for the winter. Free of charge!
Trappers tent is just a large canvas tent, usually with a front opening and hole for a wood stove.
Thatβs so cool! Love how itβs free to take, helping out everyone.
Iβd love to have a proper wood fireplace, but itβs not cold enough here to have one.
Hence why I like to go away sometimes during Winter and stay at farmhouse that is cooler and has a wood fireplace.
Oh yeah, I remember seeing those photos from the farmhouse! Looked nice!
We can do a house exchange any time. Trappers tent for the beach house πππ
Ummm now you know my feelings towards camping and tents right? Right? π
But Marie this is luxury. No spiders! Wood stove, mountain valley, snow covered trees. ππ
Yep real luxury π
Iβve got a buddy who could probably keep you warm too ππ«π
So have I and his called Roger π
π
π
Yeah there are those around ππ€·ββοΈ
Just one or two hey? π
Just a couple, here and there.
Very rare, but just happened:
Incredibly sad and condolences to families involved. π
Seems like the bear really needed to eat(but who knows exactly what transpired), such a shame for all involved π’
Yes, for sure. It is very unusual for a bear to kill two people and a dog, then remain in the area. Very strange. We spend a lot of time camping close to Ya Ha Tinda Ranch. There is public land, wild horses, and a few backcountry horse outfitters that have camps in and around the area they were attacked.
Have you ever come across one out there?
Seems odd that the dog was also killed, something doesnβt seem quite right here but then Iβm not expert in this area.
I know dogs are very loyal and probably was trying to help his human, but all three killed?
I haven't seen any grizzlies out there. Black bear, but never a grizz. Dogs will usually stay and defend their owners. Usually the dog is enough to spook the bear. I think the dog probably died first.
I worked in forestry in the summers to put myself through university and I had a grizzly stalking one of my crewmembers when we were out on a cutblock. I chased it off with a quad twice, but it kept coming back. It would just walk along the treeline where she was working. Finally, I had to call the foreman on the sat phone and he came out with his rifle. He shot twice, really close to it and then it didn't come back.
Unusual then to see a Grizzly then isnβt it?
But then as you say one would think the dog would scare it off?
Maybe it caught them all off guard?
Yes, grizz are not very common. Yeah, most times a dog would scare it off, but it sounds like this bear was especially agressive. Witout any cubs too? I'm not sure why?
Hopefully you might get more of this story in the coming days.
Could you keep me posted as Iβm very intrigued as to whatβs transpired here, not normal by any means - and thanks for sharing this π
Good morning Marie ππ₯ππ«
