I'm curious, why did they plead guilty? Do they now consider that to be a mistake? Doesn't that moot the chance to challenge the equivalency of "unlicensed money transmitter" to "software author"?

since when is having a different opinion about a law make u a criminal. This prosecution is basically crying to a judge about how the devs don’t philosophically agree with the law so they should go to jail? They didn’t commit a crime, they wrote code and talked shit. This is crazy!

They were by far the biggest and most socially prominent. Common government tactic is to go for the biggest target in an area of “concern” and hope the rest fall in line from fear. Truth is the government can never stop every Bitcoin privacy focused project/software - they don’t have the knowledge or resources. Same as the war on drugs. But they can try to scare people into not pursuing them for fear of jail.

All of this has come about from back when there were no such regulations for a thing that was regarded as a fad and hand-waved away as a joke, and only now is been taken seriously.
