There was a conversation going on today about people zapping for follows on nostr.
I don’t really care how you get followers. Do you. My question is always, what are you going to say when you have reached your follower goal? You can buy followers on nostr BUT if your content is trash they will eventually fall off. They will just unfollow eventually. People want a big following on social media but why do you want a following? What do you have to say or post that will provide value?
That’s why I said the other day that I wasn’t trying to have a ton of followers. I don’t particularly want to say anything special or make content. I don’t want to post with any agenda. I just want to post whatever and vibe. I don’t need a ton of followers to do that.
Its quite unfortunate then, because as Carl's ambassador popularity is inevitable 😂

Yeah it’s not a good strategy for authentic followers.
Not at all. And follower count already doesn’t mean all that much on nostr. It doesn’t make you eligible for this or that feature, like it does on other platforms. Authentic high quality interactions with other people is what matters, and that comes from building a reputation with other users.
Also people boosting zap4follow notes risk losing followers who don't want that content in their feed. I've unfollowed people that boost things for sats and in some cases muted people that use those tactics excessively.

Wait there's a follower goal? I follow way more than follow me. So many npubs share great content. I don't really have much worth following but I enjoy interacting with people who do. There's some amazing accounts on here
That’s a vibe. Use social media in a way that suits you. It sounds like you have that down.
I don't care about the amount of followers.
Some followers interact with me. The vast majority of followers that I have lurk and do nothing. Some regularly like my content, but never say anything to me. Then there is a couple creepy stalkers I wish I could eliminate from being able to follow me all together too.
When it boils down to it there is a small group of people who I genuinely enjoy talking to everyday. I do my best to provide content daily that is zap worthy and I always appreciate them. I tried doing this as my dedicated job, but the amount of overall Nostr users is not there yet. So for now I just try my best to be myself and hope that people find value in me. I am more here for the overall quality of the conversations and developing connections with real people more than anything.

I understand why people try to get as many followers 𝕏 as possible. It’s about monetization. But on NOSTR, monetization will require companies evaluating individual profiles. Without community engagement, companies won’t care about follower count.
