Does anyone remember Akira?
"Neo-Tokyo is about to explode"
I'm feeling nostalgic all of a sudden.

A friend showed me Akira when I was in junior high school. Was not a fan of the content, but loved the animation, and still love anime to this day. The fact that the next movie he lent me was Nausicaä helped show the breadth of stories told in that format by the Japanese, while animation in the US was basic Disney and targeted at kids (Bakshi being the obvious exception).
Taking into account that it was launched in 1988, the attention to detail denotes respect for the viewer.
