Perhaps they simply have to follow the laws in the places they operate because they are a company subject to laws.

I also think a lot of people do care to some degree. If you ran a poll I bet at least 25% of Americans would say they do care if a platform *cannot* censor their posts. But just not nearly enough to delete Facebook etc unfortunately…
That could be because most people are not political enough or not voicing out rational thoughts enough to get censored. They are not threatened - forced to self censor. Once they are at the receiving end of that threat, they may realize why censorship free society is needed.

There are more than 20,000 node runners out there. Nodes are not reachable to the public by default. If it becomes an issue in the future, that option can be easily switched on.
