Really really really disappointed to see noncustodial services feel pressure to adopt lnurl/lnaddress receive.

It allows the wallet vendor to steal funds, which is obviously pseudo-custodial, and, worse, means we can’t get privacy from blinded paths, you’re still seeing everything.

This is what happens when we don’t carefully consider the technology we’re making a defacto standard. Don’t break bitcoin, please.

Would love to see BOLT12 + blinded paths be the standard.

Sure, but even before that it’s not hard to imagine simpler protocols that still work in a non custodial manner, or even trivial adaptations to lnaddress to do so.

Curious what you’re thinking that would be a simple solution to remove the existing risks of lnaddresses since I’ve yet to see one put forth.

In the use-case of nostr you could, for example include the public key required to sign the invoice to prevent interception.

No need for webserver anymore if you have relays in the middle

Exactly! But Lightning Labs isn't implementing BOLT12 in LND, because their befriended companies are earning money with these kind of functions on the application layer.

It's fun money at the moment, I think. Up to some level there is no point having my own node. Little money, low risk.

If the long term state of affairs is that it’s not even supported then i would agree. However if it’s a short term item of expediency/ convenience then I think it’s a reasonable trade off to build participation in Nosta. Given the sorry state of censorship in social media I’m not inclined to be religiously dogmatic about the path to a better state.

#[0] does have a point here and I hope bitcoiners with capacity to fix this come together and agree on new standards

Love the solutions that custodial wallets brought to make Nostr zaps work.. but it’s an undesirable outcome that non custodianship losses the battle because of these things

Hopefully we can have the best of all

Which non-custodial service is doing that?

Wait what???
