Opinion:

Something the people of Nostr need to do better in 2026 is really showing love and support (through follows & zaps) when folks with big accounts on the legacy socials make accounts here.

It's these people's presence that will bring the broader audiences to the freedom protocol. The reason why so many normies create an account and only stay a few days is because all they see is a foreign set of accounts to follow (especially if they're not into bitcoin); so it feels unfamiliar/uncomfortable for them.

The easy solution is to always follow and zap the big names, even if you don't know or care about them. (The bonus is that you may grow to like them - especially as they'll be feeling full freedom of speech for the first time in their content creation career!)

What do you think the Nostr community as a whole should strive to do better in 2026? #AskNostr

Follow and Zap the big names….zaps should be sent for a reason other than they are a “big name.”

🤣

Value for value. IMO the only reason why people ‚need‘ to zap.

The only ‚need‘ of people is to have the awareness, to distinguish value and truth from nonsense and lies, or rather, embedded truths, which most big social media accounts have been set up for…

I don’t say all, but you might read carefully between the li(n)es.

But that’s just my personal opinion.

nAck

I'm so disappointed that Guy Christianson didn't hang around.

I literally comment "if you lost your nsec just make a new account, why aren't you sharing this on nostr?"

On everyone of his videos.

He actually got lots of love when he got here but was only active for 2 weeks and left.

So disappointed, he never even tried to onboard his followers from tiktok.

I'm only here because what's his name, cancel this tshirt company guy, the one that works for Candace Owens now, I'm only here because he made a video about nostr.

But he was also only here for like 2 weeks before he disappeared

It's unfortunate but I still consider it a big win that they've at least been here, made an account, and know it exists.

They will come back when the need for free social media becomes big enough for them.

Thanks for mentioning this Ben. The plebs can now commence showering me with zaps. ⚡️⚡️⚡️

🚀

It’s my personal belief that some of the big accounts on Nostr are actively slowing adoption & pushing people away.

When socalled “OGs” and big names start shaming others for zapping what they personally consider “too few sats,”…that’s not leadership.

That’s ego.

And it runs directly against freedom of speech and voluntary interaction.

It honestly makes me question what this is all about when even self-claimed OGs don’t get the most basic principles straight. You guys are disgusting. Shame on you.

Value is subjective.

Participation is voluntary.

Speech is free or it isn’t.

Anything else is just fiat mindset with orange paint. You are not OGs..you are fiat maxis.

It’s a shame truly.

Show more love. Show more respect.

Be kind.

And stop acting like dumbfucks.

Sending love 🧡🫂💜

The easy solution is superior indexing and data permanence and pk management and accessibility. Dw, we're all cooking...

We’ve proven we can do microblogging. This year, let’s strive for:

1. The Mom Test: Making key management so simple our parents can join without fear.

2. Beyond Social: Scaling NIPs for marketplaces, code collaboration, and long-form content.

3. Smart Discovery: Using DVMs to find our tribes without relying on "Global" noise.

Less technical friction, more human connection. 💕

Why should we zap big accounts lol? If they wanna use nostr is ok, o else fuck them

Hey Ben. Great idea, however: i advise being cautious not to attempt to "buy stars" with zaps, cause that will come off desperate and result backfiring. instead, let them have an experience where they will be tempted to bring in their communities themselves. There has been accomplished a lot in the past to make it easier for people to create accounts and connect, without restricting any of the foundational Nostr freedoms. This is crucial. Over the course of time, we need to keep discussing and holding up Nostr community values, keep them in order and advertise them. This will attract the right people for the right reasons.

Nostr needs to be easier to use with better onboarding tools. No creators big name or otherwise are going to put up with half the nonsense currently required to get an npub online let alone receiving zaps.

I almost never see you in any of my feeds in Primal anymore. This is from another client (monstr) where you appear immediately on the trend page.

Shadow banning and as you say, boosting (maybe unintentionally) devs and BTC maxi's completely rejects normie's and big accounts from other platforms.

Nice to see you nostr:nprofile1qqspywh6ulgc0w3k6mwum97m7jkvtxh0lcjr77p9jtlc7f0d27wlxpspp3mhxue69uhkyunz9e5k7qg4waehxw309ahx7um5wghxccnyv4mzuen4dc3edtsr ! He may naturally not be shadow banned.

BUT, can you hereby on bahalf of Primal officially declare that you do NOT carry out censorship based on political opinion?

And how big a bounty are you willing to pay if someone can prove that you do? You seems to be very well funded.

Am I actually?

Absolutely not

cool, i will tell this guy to come back home then

An idea:

Encouraging people, who are on Nostr, go #Nostronly. That way everyone who wants to know what they are up to will need to pay attention to Nostr.

I was never big on social media, but when I noticed that npub1s05p3ha7en49dv8429tkk07nnfa9pcwczkf5x5qrdraqshxdje9sq6eyhe and npub1qny3tkh0acurzla8x3zy4nhrjz5zd8l9sy9jys09umwng00manysew95gx are Nostronly, I decided to come and hang out here (and only here).

I am NOT suggesting that we publicly shame Bitcoiners, who are still on X/Twitter, by calling them Elon’s little bitches, cucks/hotwives, BINOs (Bitcoiner in name only), or anything like that. No, I think we have to be more constructive.

We CAN clearly point out that they have agency over their own lives, now Elon is in control of their communication, and that it’s hard to respect people who don’t respect themselves.
