Ask them if they have cash app and send them BTC through there, it's easy

To orange pill someone in the service industry is generally fairly easy. The whole FoH staff talks about money. There's very little delusion among the staff that that's what they're all there for. They're a sales force, afterall. And most of them, while they would never tell a guest, hate their jobs. And they hate taxes. Most of them owe at tax time anyway. The hourly seldom covers what they owe. So, they see that money going out.

But, you'll never get them while they're busy, especially the bartender. They have easy too much going on.

If you want to get them, go in during the slow time, normally between 2-4 pm. That's when they're bored AND when a bartender is bored, they're also basically working for free.

It's during that slow, free labor period of their day that they want to milk guests for tips and will often talk about anything the guestt wants to talk about. Good bartenders pride themselves in being able to hold on a conversation with anyone. So, bring up bitcoin.

You know the rest.

Just saw this. Thanks for the great answer, friend 🙏

Tip em in btc. If they like it, opens up the conversation.

If they don’t like it, move on.

…Then tweet about it in disgust 😂

😂

My trouble was getting them to download an app in the first place, but #[3] made a good point that it was during their busiest time of night, so not ideal for orange pill chats

Ah! There is no perfect time to pill but there are certainly more appropriate moments 💪

The more people ask wether they accept it, the more they will be inticed to use it, don't give up.

I find people feel like you are trying to stiff them if you ask if you can tip in bitcoin. On the other hand when I offer to tip and then say I will match my tip on bitcoin, I rarely have bartenders, servers, Uber drivers, etc decline.

Good point!

I got one dude saying he’d have to buy more in order to sell what I would give him.

They are also filled with a bunch of erroneous assumptions too.

The Bitcoin CEO needs to invest in a marketing & facts on Bitcoin campaign.

It’s thought provoking though. If someone offered me payment in Bitcoin I’d be delighted, because I’d be highly likely to send it to cold storage. That’s the value to me.

If your mindset is more about tips-cash-expenses, then getting a little Bitcoin might prove inconvenient, if your plan is to trade it for fiat anyway.

To #[3]‘s point, the bitcoin match offer may be a workaround here

Matching the tip completely changes the course of the conversation. Often it will go from a reluctant”Yeah that’s fine if you want to match it.” To “Wait, you already sent it? I have some bitcoin now.” I have witnessed so many lightbulb moments this way. If you really want to drive the message home, post their wallet address for people to send sats to it. Our bartender in JH was blown away and giddy. She couldn’t wait to learn more about bitcoin.

It’s a problem with lightning though. If you give them a easy lightning wallet, it’s often either custodial or really confusing (or impossible) to send out to a regular bitcoin address.

For beginners I would always suggest muun for that reason, since they can do either. The fees may be more, but they won’t run into problems.

We need better lightning wallets and better channel management, or else a better L2 altogether.

You’re orange pilling technique is just different from mine and that’s great. You never know what will ignite bitcoin interest in people. I want fast and simple transfer of sats, and then I give them my card with my contact info. I have done this well over a hundred times and have had several text me on where they can find more info on bitcoin. That is my goal at this point.

What I usually notice is that people will ask…

“What do I do with it now?”

or

“How do I cash it out?”

Then it’s a long explanation about time preference that usually goes over their head.

That’s brilliant 💪

What I have found is that even less then people accepting Bitcoin, most people have put zero thought or effort into opening even a custodial wallet in order to transact BTC.

I think that CashApp is has done a superb job in making it relatively easy to onboard Bitcoin users.

... Now, how the hell do we get all our friends to do the KYC, load the app and fuck around with it?🤷🏻‍♂️

I always have them download WoS. I have only had two people ever decline. It’s fast and a simple interface.

Mix it up with Bitcoin Beach.

I agree with WOS ease of use.

But it's mostly a means to transfer sats at this point.

The user then needs to figure out how and what to do next in order to monetize the sats.

*Connect a bank account to WOS?

*Open an exchange account?

*What's cold storage, probably not there yet.

*Find a retailer or another Bitcoiner that will take sats as a medium of exchange.

This is the way. Tip in cash. Double tip in Bitcoin.

Professional service industry worker here, I've worked in hotels and fine dining for 30 years. IMO, tipping is going to be a big win for bitcoin IF we are able to introduce a p2p tipping platform that provides easy transfer between guest and workers. A Bitcoin tipping app that had offramps to gift cards, prepaid visa/amex and old fashioned kyc/fiat bank links. Make it so easy to use, everyone will want to default to it when "tipping" people. Bartenders, Uber drivers, grocery baggers, escorts..... It would change tipping worldwide, the tipping app could essentially be a dex, converting to the recipients desired currency in a flash. An app with a little mix of Strike and Bitwage, sprinkled with Venmo or Cash app vibes.....

Imagine a world where YOU can tip in the currency you have, and where I can accept the tip in any currency I choose.

Cheers.

🤞

Love everything about this 🙌

Payment space disruptoooor.....

"Get paid in the currency YOU use."

It's just not worth the time in my opinion. When it really matters is when people talk about not knowing where to invest their money because it's so hard decision. That's when I start offering an orange pill.
