I find people feel like you are trying to stiff them if you ask if you can tip in bitcoin. On the other hand when I offer to tip and then say I will match my tip on bitcoin, I rarely have bartenders, servers, Uber drivers, etc decline.

Good point!

I got one dude saying he’d have to buy more in order to sell what I would give him.
They are also filled with a bunch of erroneous assumptions too.
The Bitcoin CEO needs to invest in a marketing & facts on Bitcoin campaign.
It’s thought provoking though. If someone offered me payment in Bitcoin I’d be delighted, because I’d be highly likely to send it to cold storage. That’s the value to me.
If your mindset is more about tips-cash-expenses, then getting a little Bitcoin might prove inconvenient, if your plan is to trade it for fiat anyway.
To #[3]‘s point, the bitcoin match offer may be a workaround here
Matching the tip completely changes the course of the conversation. Often it will go from a reluctant”Yeah that’s fine if you want to match it.” To “Wait, you already sent it? I have some bitcoin now.” I have witnessed so many lightbulb moments this way. If you really want to drive the message home, post their wallet address for people to send sats to it. Our bartender in JH was blown away and giddy. She couldn’t wait to learn more about bitcoin.
It’s a problem with lightning though. If you give them a easy lightning wallet, it’s often either custodial or really confusing (or impossible) to send out to a regular bitcoin address.
For beginners I would always suggest muun for that reason, since they can do either. The fees may be more, but they won’t run into problems.
We need better lightning wallets and better channel management, or else a better L2 altogether.
You’re orange pilling technique is just different from mine and that’s great. You never know what will ignite bitcoin interest in people. I want fast and simple transfer of sats, and then I give them my card with my contact info. I have done this well over a hundred times and have had several text me on where they can find more info on bitcoin. That is my goal at this point.
What I usually notice is that people will ask…
“What do I do with it now?”
or
“How do I cash it out?”
Then it’s a long explanation about time preference that usually goes over their head.

That’s brilliant 💪
What I have found is that even less then people accepting Bitcoin, most people have put zero thought or effort into opening even a custodial wallet in order to transact BTC.
I think that CashApp is has done a superb job in making it relatively easy to onboard Bitcoin users.
... Now, how the hell do we get all our friends to do the KYC, load the app and fuck around with it?🤷🏻♂️
I always have them download WoS. I have only had two people ever decline. It’s fast and a simple interface.
Mix it up with Bitcoin Beach.
I agree with WOS ease of use.
But it's mostly a means to transfer sats at this point.
The user then needs to figure out how and what to do next in order to monetize the sats.
*Connect a bank account to WOS?
*Open an exchange account?
*What's cold storage, probably not there yet.
*Find a retailer or another Bitcoiner that will take sats as a medium of exchange.
This is the way. Tip in cash. Double tip in Bitcoin.
