So much responsibility to relay

I know.. I want to start small and private.

I don’t know how small or private going ities invasion can be, but sure sounds fun.

🤭

With great power comes great responsibility.

I don’t shy away from responsibility easily but I do want to learn more about it.

I run umbrel from a docker container on an Ubuntu virtual machine, its designed for raspbian but works fine in a vm. It took like 2 hours to fully setup. I had done network setup already for other self hosted servers, so may take more time. Dive in.

Run a relay to which end?

My immense rich social life?

What kind of relay do you want to run? For how many people? Public? Private?

I'd like to start private and small, moreso to learn and understand it more. Eventually go public and wild. 😄

I used Start9 on a RasPi for a private relay. But, it requires you to use TOR on your phone, which made my client, Amethyst, really slow.

Maybe there's a way around this?

Nah, tor is slow as shit.

Update: I set my phone's VPN to split tunneling, and made an exception for Amethyst, so it doesn't use my VPN. Then, I set Orbot to only use TOR for Amethyst.

Seems to be a lot faster. We'll see how my phone battery holds up.

Thanks!

Is Umbrel free? My relay on AWS costs $10 a month and isn’t even really running yet

Looks like the OS is free. Unless you want to get their hardware.

Umbrel is free and light enough to run on an old Dell optiplex.

Run Umbrel

Good question!
