Cashu is for those services which don't need federations (99% of all services in the world). What you get is a open, well-tested ecash protocol to build your product on.

And that's what people are already doing.

According to mutiny, if you run a cashu mint you go straight to jail

Explain to me how cashu mints *aren't* essentially custodial banks?

They *are*

Yep they are lol

They can be much more. Imagine service like Netflix where you mint some ecash (swapping from lightning) on their mint (or some you both agreed on) and you pay for minutes you watch just by sending some http (or whatever) headers with the tokens.

Wouldn’t that all be handled internally on the Netflix like service? How does ecash help them? Allow me to withdraw my unused tokens… seems bad for business (good for me)

Well they don't need complicated a payment processor infrastructure.

There is also a v4v ethos.

And how many times you'd like to watch something but don't want to pay like $30 for a month. You not paying cents to watch content is their loss.

And further imagine something like a WiFi access point that charges you per minute or per GB. Cafes could earn sats by opening up their access points. People in densely populated areas of cities could provide extra access points as well.

yeah Tony is a mind bending yedi: "if you give your money to two people instead of one, neither of them is a custodian."

sure ;)

Does node packages, umbrel, mynode etc have Cashu apps to create mints?

You trying to break the law or something 🤨

You can lnbits with cashu mint plugin.

Yup. It’s like email for money.

The only part I don’t understand about cashu, if it runs on lightning, why not just use lightning?

Question comes from a lack of understanding really, not skepticism.

That's like asking "Why do people use wallet of satoshi if they could run a lightning node"

Not really, more like, why use cashu if I can use WoS?

Cashu is a better way to build custodians.

So it helps the devs not the users?

it give you privacy and uncensorability and other things: cashu.space

The offline part might be the most interesting in cashu.

The mint can't see your wallet, can't stop you sending the tokens. That's the cool part.

What if they're both the cool parts?

Do you ever see a day when blind signature is used in a decentralised system compare to federation &/or custodian

Why are they not interoperable? Why can't a cashu mint be federated?

They, being Cashu and Fedimint? They are interoperable through the LN.

Yes nostr:note1det5sk9vd6662ncxgq2xfs7h92k0t252kttw0fs5gn828tyv0fessnl6m3

It would be very surprising IMO

Maybe I’m being too optimistic and assuming all actors act rationally 😅
