A kiddo in the deaf community here in the states committed suicide and cited lack of access to language/family learning ASL as a hardship. That language is love. I can see your point. Totally effing sucks

It seems to me in a Nostr-inspired future, way better tools will likely exist for parents to simply have control (to the extent they choose to) of social media on the devices they provide their children.
The kids will go underground, and Australia will spend tons of money attempting to enforce it. In the end Australia will give up, and try to tax it instead. By then the kids will be happier with the underground versions, and will avoid the taxes also.

Itโs very hard to separate out cause and effect. At the same time that social media adoption grew we also saw increased family acceptance and legalization of queer relationships. Are the rates of suicide going down because of social media, or because queer kids arenโt facing violence from peers, or because theyโre not being disowned by their family and made homeless? Or is it social media changing society to reduce those harms by increasing acceptance?
What we do know is that suicide rates are dropping amongst queer youth. The change in acceptance and legalization of queer peopleโs existence has happened much faster than anybody in the queer community expected. A big shift has been the way social media stopped the censorship of almost all queer voices and stories.

It isn't possible to accurately measure whether a teen who committed suicide's sexual preference. especially a 13 or 14 yesr old. So it means nothing. You can measure age, gender, possibly race accurately.
You can't measure who someone was attracted to post mortem, lol.
