✨ Multinuteral payments – Pay a single Lightning invoice from Ecash balances on multiple Cashu mints.

We use Lightning multi-path payments (MPP) to achieve atomicity.

This has wild implications for UX and privacy and is a significant breakthrough for Cashu.

Most Cashu wallets have multiple small ecash balances across mints to minimize the custodial risk.

Paying a large LN invoice, however, was a pain. Amounts larger than any of your ecash balances required a multi-mint swap first (swap ecash across mints via LN).

Not anymore!

Instead of one big LN payment, wallets could send multiple small ones from a dozen different mints all running their own LN node.

Either all payments succeed, or all fail. The mints don't communicate with each other. Receiver doesn't notice anything.

Imagine the beauty of this.

This eliminates the need for inter-mint coin control almost entirely. Wallets could show the user one unified balance across all mints and handle it all hidden away from the user.

You simply scan an invoice and an orchestra of Ecash mints and Lightning nodes begin their play.

This is yet another cool example of how ecash can significantly improve the safety and security of custodial Lightning wallets.

The deep integration of Cashu with Lightning makes this possible. And we have more ideas.

The big pump may bring excitement, but lets not forget the importance of strategic investment decisions over impulsive actions. Patience and long-term vision often yield greater rewards.

In mutiny we could do a payment with one part from self custodial, one part from a Fedimint, and one part from a cashu mint 🀯

Calle, is there a good primer on ecash I can read as a layman?

nut whirlpool... cool 😎

Radical!

Amazing! Does cashu just need to implement NIP-47 to implement Nostr's zap posts?

Cashu has my mind blown almost on a daily basis.

So while before it was already relatively trivial to have one preferred mint that other tokens get swapped to automatically, now you can spread your custody out between multiple such mints. I imagine a wallet could treat new mints as untrusted until you mark them as trusted. When funds arrive to untrusted mints, the tokens get swapped into trusted mints instantly but distributed and when paying stuff, the wallet would seamlessly pick from available funds. Smooth.

Wow, this got me thinking... Imagine a world where eCash Mint "federation" is handled at the edge rather than by the mints themselves. So my client connects to the mints I want, then none of those mints custody my coins independently, my wallet coordinates some sort of multi-sig federation between the mints. No idea if this is technically possible...

Haha epic, love this! many small risks all hidden behind one balance rather than some big risks and other smaller risks. Very clever.

If/while the mint is offline, if you already have a token (some "ecash"), then you can give that to someone else. They can later redeem when the mint is back (or Internet connection restored, etc)

What are mints? never explored them. Is that an open spec?

Yes, everything is in the open:

https://github.com/cashubtc/nuts

What if one out of many mints has rugpulled you and is insolvent?

You receive an error and try the next mint for the partial payment.

Can someone explain this in none dev way to understand what it unlocks for us - humans and users

You will have small balances on 20 different mints and you won't even notice it.
