Can anyone identify this plant? It looked much different than anything I’ve seen around my yard so I let it grow to check it out.

Looks like poison hemlock to me. I would be cautious if you decide to pull it. Poison hemlock juices can cause blistering.

Be careful if you have sensitive skin, but I’ve ripped lots of it down with my bare hands. Definitely wash up afterwards, the difference between minimal active dose and lethal dose is relatively close.

Is it the purple on the stem that gives it away?

Purple splotches, smooth stems, musky smell when bruised, shape of the leaves (when you are more familiar with the family).
