I hope this message reaches every #Bitaxe user. Bitaxe lottery miners are amazing, but please be aware that this is experimental electronics. As with all such devices, you need to take proper precautions.

A few days ago, when I upgraded to version 2.1.7, the WiFi went down for unknown reasons that night. The next morning, when I entered the room where my lottery miner was located, I smelled fried components. The miner was extremely hot, and the fan was static. I unplugged it immediately and later that day downgraded it back to version 2.1.6. I'm not sure if the version was the issue because I don't want to risk and stress it again. I'm just happy it still works.

Model: BM1366

Free Heap Memory: 171436

Version: v2.1.6

Board Version: 0.11

My amateur assumptions was that WI-FI chip was rapidly searching for network for whole night and that makes the device extremely hot.

The point is, be very careful about leaving these little devices unsupervised without proper fire-proof solutions.

Did you build it youself? πŸ‘€

No. Ordered from https://altairtech.io

The miner works fine but I'm not comfortable leaving it next to flammable materials after what I experienced.

Have you contacted their support? Maybe it's an hardware issue?

The miner worked fine and it's working fone now as well. The glitch happened when the internet was down and on the day I updated to new version.

It's hashing normally rn.

The nostr:npub1mrechz2tgtmspqc9e6l30dyfy4j57g43srzcvxupzs0cpn8h9pyqwms0g5 mentioned automatic fan control. Yes, auto fan ctrl was selected.

Throw it on manual until you know for sure. There are a few weird things going on with the new versions. I haven't updated since 2.1.3 and mine are going strong, Ultra and Supra. I'll probably wait to see how it all shakes out.

nostr:npub1vwf2mytkyk22x2gcmr9d7ktprakh6llwpzxqlke8rlv5j0qyx2esf2lxtw have you ever experienced or heard of something like this? πŸ‘€

Do you have auto fan control on? I would bet more on the fan turning off and the ASIC overheating. There have been issues with the fan control in the past.

🫣😁

Sorry to hear you had issues, there was a change to the fan behavior in 2.1.7 which caused this issue. I will fix it ASAP, look for the next release.

PSA: If you've updated your Bitaxe to 2.1.7 there is a possibility of overheating if the WiFi disconnects. Please Update to 2.1.8

I can confirm this version 2.1.8 does not overheat the miner on lost wifi connection.

The wifi went down again and and #Bitaxe didn't give a damn πŸ’ͺ🏼🧑
