Happened to me too. No idea if this is how it works but I took these steps and it stopped happening.
1. Went to settings added and saved relays
2. Let that sit overnight
3. Went to follows me and refollowed a bunch
4. Let that page sit over night. I wonder if the relays just had to propagate it out or something...
You can use nostrgram.co to restore your follows.
Is it safe to pput your private key in nostrgram? I cnt see how to make it use the nos2x extension

Some clients are buggy and delete your follow lists. Stick to one client and you're goodπ
Yeah - I'm noticing a few of my follows have dropped off or they have walked away from their npubs.
I'm really feeling a need for an app/client with a light DB purely for tracking & managing my contacts (and their burnt npubs).

Nostrgram seems to save your followers, you can restore them there.
That's happened to me before as well. Not sure what caused it but it sucks. I think someone developed a way to backup all your follows and relays.
Known issue. It's a serious gap in the protocol that needs addressing. Clients have come up with their own metadata read/write logic and they clash terribly, leading to the issue you experienced.
